But when I did, those were my highest speeds. All of them were on the Gandy bridge in Tampa (straight and 7 miles long) at 2am with no traffic except the Toronado which was on the Sunshine Skyway (even bigger bridge). A blowout was still possible in all of those cases, but I eliminated the possibility of animals, cops, unseen traffic, pedestrians, just losing control, etc.

But in favor of my argument, thats another thing. If a cop clocks you over 120, chances are you will not pass Go or collect $200...

ha, i dont mind drivin fast and it doenst scare me. what does are the fines and penalties and possible problems from goin too fast. A friend of mine got arrested for doing 155 in 55 in his 3000GT VR-4. He ended up losing his license for 3 years and tons of fines. He also melted his Nitto 555 tires and destoyed the plastic in the wheel wells.

Ok, I'm not real sure why I've read all of this. However, it brings a question to mind. Most of know that the ECU cuts fuel at 127 MPH. My question is how does the ECU get the speed information? Does it read speed at the wheel?

it gets the information from what gear its in, and what RPM the gear is in. There is only 1mph the car could be in while in 4th gear at 4900 RPMS.

To be honest I was scared poop less afterwards, my arms became stiff and I could not let go of the wheel lol. I've never gone so fast in my life before, last time I ever do something that stupid.Say have you guys noticed how sensitive the car gets once you hit a 100+? Is this normal for stock cars or cars in general?
umm, what mods do u have that allow you to hit 130?? did u somehow disable the speed limiter? CUz its set at 127...and i have bounced off it @127 a few times on 95/495. The engine just stops accelerating at 127 (close to 130, but not quite! )

I've gone 160 with my boy in his Evo that runs 12.8 1/4 mile..his supra runs 9's. been in that too. almost crapped myself

Can someone please explain to me how a Toranado can go that fast? I drove one a long long time ago, and I doubt that thing could have gone 120.

I read through this briefly. Its amazing how, unless you do it all the time, people think 130 is scary. I lived in europe for the past 5 years and for the most part of it owned a porsche. I also had a merceds 190E (failry good size car) and wife has a 2003 Corolla. All of them except the corolla would do 130 MPH easily. If you arent driving just to drive fast most of todays (if not all) cars can cruise at 120+MPH. Even the corrolla that cut out at 113MPH, could do it easily for hours with the wife sitting next to me and children in the car.
Speed is all about how its used. If its used for commuting its just as safe as 65 MPH.

Gosh..if you all think 127 is fast and dangerous..you must NEVER have been on an airplane before... 500 mph 30,000 feet up in the air.. If you can do that, you should be able to drive your tc 127.

The tC should be able to handle 127 MPH with cruise set for hours, or until the tank is empty.

I said it before, its not as fast as you think. Its the thrill that makes it scary. Hopefully I will be moving back to germany soon, then I will be able to see how it does. Seeing as my wifes corolla could handle the speeds just fine, I am thinking the tC will be fine. I have seen minivans cruising at those speeds. Its not as fast and unsafe as some make it think.
I wouldnt do it in the states tho, because others dont know how to handle a car going that fast around them.

Unfortunatly at the time (about 8 years ago) I wasn't very car savvy. Least of all about American muscle. I don't even know what year Toronado it was, though I believe it was a late 60s model. But sufffice it to say, my friend Mitch and his dad would buy old cars, and work the hell out of them. It was a retardedly overbuilt motor (and I imagine transmission, to go that fast). Especially since, if I remember correctly, the car was front-wheel drive.

That was one of the many ridiculously built muscle cars Mitch owned in high school. I've sort of fallen out of touch with him, but I'd like to contact him and ask what all was done to that car now that I know a lot more about engines.

Yeah going that fast is a rush. I've gone over 150mph twice in my life. Once was in a rental car when I lived in Europe and the other was in my ZX2 on an empty highway. I got a pic of me going 250kph in Europe and a vid of 150+ on the ZXPoo..er 2.

Anyways, I'm sure its been said(I havent read the whole thread) but its dumb to go that fast
