Default Rockblocker... bad?

So what started as just trying to help someone clear out some closet space turns into something ridiculous. I'm sure many of you know guitarsurf from here and over on S-N. Anyway, I picked up a Rockblocker 3rd Brake light overlay out of her mini-part-out.

It comes in the mail, brand new, with all of the Rockblocker paperwork, the little squeegee, the whole deal. I try to install it... umm, no way at all. The vinyl is way too small, and horribly cut, to boot. Rockblocker responds after my third e-mail, and says that I can send them the defective overlay, and they'll "take a look at it". So I sent pictures. I figure what the heck, they want a look, and this want cost me 4 bucks for shipping.

Now, Rockblocker, don't bust my chops. I sell parts on my own small scale. I know about material costs. A single CHMSL overlay for a tC uses about 3¢ worth of vinyl. How did this make it through QC? And what reason would I have to deceive them? It either fits, or it doesn't.

I just kinda want to get an idea of what other folks are thinking: send it back and swallow a few more bucks, forget the whole thing and buy my own roll of translucent vinyl (about 40 bucks for a 5 yard roll) and start selling Doc Iso's Redout overlays for $3 each, ask guitarsurf for my money back (which I do not want to do, as this is clearly not her fault)... I dunno. Anyway, this thread is worthless without pics.

Just keep me posted Doc. You know I'll get you all the $ back + just because. I'm kind of annoyed too because I don't know crap about vinyl so I thought it must've been normal to be small. Afterall, they're the "pros." I thought it would stretch or something. They would've gotten away with it if you hadn't gotten involved! I don't want to get in trouble for being a noob!

As I expected, no. They clearly have no interest in dealing with me, as I received the product "secondhand". I still intend to mail the worthless overlay back to them in the cheapest manner possible, just to be rid of the offensive thing. The fact that it was actually sold as a retail product is nothing short of a bad joke.

You can send it back to me instead and I'll take care of it! I can throw a grade a temper tantrum. What a pain. I'm sorry! pm me your email again and I'll zip you money at lunch.

Now it's my turn to ask if they've made any effort to remedy the situation. The defective overlay is firsthand again!

Since we are dissecting things here Dr. Maybe we should say something here. First, we received only one email on 10/03 from and responding in a very timely fashion. Your email sent 8:54 am and replied at 9:44 am. But you start a post at 5:08 Pm after we spoke. I have been awating your return as you told us you were doing..

Your request was there asking if anything could be done on a secondhand purchase. Since you being a business man you would know that more times than not businesses dont allow returns or refunds after it changes hands. But we didnt say a thing other than we would help you out and to send it back.

This was our response to you verbatim:

"You can send it back and we will take a look at it for you. Typically we do not work with second hand parties, but I will make an exception."

As you can see we didnt ignore you, blow you off or anything such as that. Not sure why you would tell people that we blew you off. Did you ever think maybe just maybe it was for a different vehicle???? We do sell parts for over 750 different vehicles on the road. Prolly not and we wont know since we dont have the part back to check and verify anything. Not that we want that to happen, but when you have this many parts it could happen

You then sent a second email showing the photos, since you wanted to make sure we knew how it fit on your car before it was shipped back Probably not knowing that we have a tC as well so we can easily check on a car if we really wanted too. There was no mention of shipping or anything such as that in any email by yourself.

As you and everyone else can see, we have tried to make things right with you and for you. But for some reason that isnt good enough for you. Everyone has the right to choose to as they wish in life and with buying products.

It sure looks like you are trying to gauge interest on whether or not you could sell a product like this. Im not going to sit on here and argue with you about this or that. You have said your side of "the said story" and now we have as well. The offer to help a second hand buyer was made and you chose afterwards to do otherwise.

Well said Rockblocker!! , I just think when someone gets angry they just gotta vent somehow and make themselves look like they are not at fault so ppl can sympathize. I've bout from u guys plenty of times and had no problem!!!! People CAN make mistakes u know. To send 1 incorrect item out......... out of i dont know how many items they send out a day . Id say its an extremely low percentage. Well its just my .02 cents. Dont bash. Rockblocker RULES!!!!

Your first response to me came after my 3rd email to you, a total of 5 days after I had sent the initial e-mail. The tone was brusque. I made an immediate e-mail response to yours, providing photogrpahic evidence... why? Because e-mailing pictures is a whole lot cheaper than postage to mail back less than a dollar's worth of defective product. Postage that would outweigh the value of the item itself. Something akin to using two stamps to mail an envelope containing a single stamp. I didn't receive any response to that e-mail, until this very post, a mere sixteen days later.

So don't high horse me. Don't assume what I am or am not doing. I paid for the item once, and didn't feel like paying any more for it. Guitarsurf was more than accomodating. I'm done with it.

As to the fanboy... take it elsewhere. Was I angry? Yes. Was Rockblocker at fault? Absolutely. Should I have had to pay to return their defective product to them, so they could "take a look at it"? Am I an idiot? Can I not tell when a piece of vinyl is really, really, poorly cut and will in no way cover the part it's intended to cover?

That last one was rhetorical, in case that slipped past you.

Be upset if you want then. We answered your email promptly that we received. Your second email on the photos made no reference to saying "hey can these photos work instead of sending the part back." Your comment was here are some photos before I send it back. Didnt realize we were to suppose to respond.

If we would have known about your post sooner then we would have responded to it sooner dont you think? Did you share any of this in an email, nope. You asked a simple question, we replied, you sent photo before you were going to ship back. Should have been the end of things.

Have a good day.

It was the end of things, technically. Guitarsurf refunded me the money and I sent it back to her almost 2 weeks ago. It's all over but the shouting.

I think it is easy to say that you are definitely overreacting about the whole situation. I mean, you come on here mouthing off about a 3rd brake light overlay that you say is completely worthless and worth nothing close to what you paid for the item. Don't you think that would make you look like the idiot for buying this so called worthless piece of crap? Correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm not. Who knows, you so called friend could have sold it to you at a price much higher than what she bought it for, we don't even know that much. So for you to go raving on about how ridiculous his prices are and how cheap the product is, you are definitely in the wrong.

And on another note, guitarsurf, you are far from a noob, being that you have been on the boards since February. Sorry to say, but I think you've been kicked out of the category for a while. I think you need to sit in a corner and think about how stupid you were for buying ANYTHING secondhand.

Looked great in the pictures, looked terrible when I got it.

On another note, you're speculating on matters you know absolutely nothing about. This will succeed in making you look like nothing but a fool.

Let's stick to the topic on hand: the overlay is defective. Is anyone debating this? Further, why am I the only one that seemed to be upset about it? Everyone else seems to have this, "You're overreacting, these things happen" mentality. I really, really have to call BS on that.

But "mouthing off". That's just precious.

Next.

I stand behind his products and I know for certain that many many others can say the same thing. I think that I'm not alone when I say that an apology is due for posting in such a crass manner at such a premature time. If you would have allowed him and his associates to correct the issue, this post would not have started.

You stated yourself that you refused to send the item back, but still wanted a replacement sent out. There are procedures for everything in this world, including returns, but you refused to do it their way, but did start a post to supposedly warn people of his wrong doings, when in fact he did evertyhing short of driving to your house and swapping the item out in person. I really think you need to rethink the way you handle things like this in the future, doesn't say much for character.

Are you on retainer? Does it pay well? Hey, I'm "crass" and "premature", so what would an apology from me amount to?

But I like the pseudo-intellectual namecalling. Almost made my minute.
