Terrible dealership/salespeople
My name is Dan, and I live in Duluth Minnesota. I've researched the xb for over a year, until now when I can afford it. Just for looking around the forums, checking the scion site, I've gathered a bit of knowlege about the vehicle, though I don't know much mechanical information.
Anyways to the point, I drove my first xb at the dealership, it was a used red/purple one, with 11k miles on it. I drove the xb and really want one now. Looking throught the site and the prices, I've decided that I only want one if I can get the rs3.0. So the next time I test drove at the dealership, I asked their "scion specialist" about the rs3.0.
The convo :
Me: I was interested in the green rs3.0., will you have one here, or how can I get one?
Dealer: Are you talking about the camo one?
Me: No, theres a special series of the xb, a limited amound and I want one.
Dealer: oh....I'll ask the guy who drives the trucks in on monday, if you want to call back.
So on monday, I called the guy about 9am, convo.
Me: Hey my name is dan, i was there saturday asking about the green rs3.0.
Dealer: Dan? what? um.....
Me: I was there saturday, you said you'd check with the driver to see if you were getting one.
Dealer: Are you talking about a camo one?
Me: no..
Dealer: uh, ok well I haven't talked to the driver yet, I'll go ask him, give me your number and I'll get back to you.
Me: ok.
It got to around 4:00pm, without a call....so I decided to call him back. convo.
Me: hey, this is dan....I called earlier about the green rs3.0 scion sb.
dealer: dan? what? ummm...are you taliking about the camo one?
Me: no, do you know about the rs3.0, the envy green xb???!?!?!?
Dealer: no.
Me: ***at this point I filled him in, pretty much rambled everything I knew about the vehicle***
Dealer: Let me get your number again, and I'll call you with what I find out.
So now its tuesday am, 11am cst. He never called me back yesterday, and is yet to call me today. I really find it hard to believe that a customer is going to spend up and around $17,000.00 on a vehicle, and the dealer/salesperson isn't motivated enough to do ANYTHING. My friends mother was buying a chevy cobalt, or at least looking at one....the dealer called her after she checked it out...asked her how she liked it, and offered to pick her up, drive her to the dealership and finance it. After all, this guy is their "scion specialist" and knows nothing....It's getting really irritating.
The dealer in question is :
Kolar Scion (Approx 6.47 miles away)
4781 Miller Trunk Hwy.
Duluth, MN 55811
Just doesn't make any sense...kolar has dealerships all over the place....this salesperson was sitting on a couch in the lobby of the dealership the entire time, doing nothing. Would it be hard to offer to try to get one for me? make some sort of move? Anyways, if anyone knows how to go about getting ahold of one of these, please respond...and don't tell me to go through the closest dealership...ahha

I believe the nearest is over 130 miles away....I just feel like I'd be wasting a day traveling there, going throught the same bs. Also I planned on financing locally. Any word on the rates through scion as opposed to a bank/credit union? which is better?
Sometimes I think dealers are not that smart. I actually bought a STI a couple of months ago. Got the car. Paid for the car in cash. Walked around the car and noticed a scratch on it. They tried to buff it out twice and it was still there. Then the salesman said it is not that noticable. I finally said they can keep the car after that comment as well as a lot of other things during the sales pitch.
I'm supposed to get my RS3.0 today. When I went to the dealership I talked to a saleswoman. She didn't have a clue what I was wanting. Had to show her on the internet site what I wanted. She went to the sales manager and was able to get my question answered. Ended up putting a down payment on the car the same day. Actually the one they are supposed to get was an automatic, they were able to switch it out with another dealer who had an unsold manual. Overall, bad start to the experience but ended up with a good ending.
Good luck on yours!

That's terrible. Obviously, that salesperson isn't very hungry!
Toyota/Scion is generally good about getting their empoyees new product knowledge. Personally, I check both the Scion and Toyota websites at least weekly to try to keep up with recent cars and developments. Plus, I have always been a car guy.....reading Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc.
Maybe try a different salesperson or ask for the sales manager.
Good luck!

It sounds like this salesman is not motivated in anyway to sell you a car. I just recently purchased a Polar White (don't know the correct abbreviation) XB exactly this time last week. I sent out a request online and several dealerships responded within minutes of my request. All the dealerships also gave me a call back on my cell phone to make sure they had all the options and colors that I wanted. They really seemed to want my business and not take it somewere else. Well needless to say I ended up @ my local scion dealership due to the pure pricing and everything went smoothly. Well not to smooth, some issues with obtaining Polar white, and some damage on my driver side fender, but that is a whole other story. But they even took care of that right away.
My suggestion, take that 100mile drive to the other dealership. Don't give a moron your comission. If he does nothing for you, why would you do something for him.

I drove 120 miles to get my RS3. There are 10s of other dealers around my area but I would rather go to a dealer who has dedidate Scion team who can answer any questions you have, responsive, and more. (Caveat: There ARE dealers around my area that has dedicated and qualified Scion team but I stuck with the guys at Maita Scion)
For me, it would even drive to LA, Vegas or even Seattle from the Bay area as long as there is a guarantee that i would be getting an RS3.
Go for RS3.. You will love it!!

I have to agree with some of the other comments. Find another dealership. Go on the Internet, Yahoo Auto is an example, and request a quote. A dealership that wants your business will get back to you. You can do everything over the phone and only make the 130-mile trip on the day you pick up the box. Use the local dealership for the test drives and drooling, but buy elsewhere
You asked about your financing. If you want to do business with your local credit union then get a pre-approved loan. I walked into my dealership with a check for up to 24k so all I had to do was sign the paperwork and fill out the check. You can check on Scion.com for the Toyota rates. If I remember correctly, you can build an xB and see the rates towards the end of building the car. The RS3 is not on the website but you can still see the rates.
Good Luck. The RS3 is worth the trip.

You should call the sales manager and let him know how you were treated. I was dealing with a dope sales bimbo, and was almost ready to buy elsewhere when the sales manager stepped in and was great to deal with.
^^^ Ditto. Same thing happened when I purchased my xA. Just when I was about to get the cold shoulder ready to leave, I asked for the Scion sales manager. He apologized for the experience I had, got me a some coffee from Starbucks, and sat down with me and sorted out my purchase. An hour later, I bought my PW xA, though it wasn't on the lot. It was delivered a week later fresh off the boat =p
