HI,

Slim kit is just the ballast that is half the size of the other, so if you have smaller space in the front, you may want to get the slim ballast kit for easy installation. Thanks~

HI,

We don't have 55w ballast for the following reason

1.) 55w is only 15% more brighter than the 33w
2.) because of this brightness, it burns out the bulb and the ballast out faster
3.) 55w is 2-3 times more expensive than the 35w

Therefore it is not worth using or selling the 55w. Thanks~

My HID conversion kit from HIDextra was here waiting for me when I got home from work tonight. Very fast shipping. Thank you.

However, I must say the installation "instructions" that came with my kit are pretty much useless. I realize this isn't rocket science, and I'm sure I'll figure it out on my own, but you REALLY need to improve your "documentation". And when you do, please post a copy on your web site.

One problem is the kit I received looks very different that the product photos on your web site and in all the DIY installs on this, and other, forums. For example, my ballasts have no labels on them - none at all. The photos on your web site clearly show a black label that says "35W Ballast" and lists the specs for the ballast. Mine has no label at all, and no indication which side is top or bottom (if it matters - I have no idea). Is this normal? Are you now shipping unlabeled ballasts, or did someone just forget to put the labels on mine? If the kits you are selling don't have labels on the ballasts, you should update the product photos on your web site to match the products you are selling.

There is no big red rubber adhesive patch for mounting the ballasts - as shown inthe product photos on your web site and all the online install instructions I can find. Mine came with a cheap stamped metal bracket, that I guess I'm supposed to bolt to my car and slide the ballast into. One problem with the bracket is that once the ballast is inserted, it EASILY slides right back out. There is a raised tab at the back, that looks like it is SUPPOSED to hold the ballast in place, but it doesn't. It's poorly designed and allows the ballast to slide right out the back of the bracket. I'll probably figure out some way to bend this tab, or the bracket to hold the ballast in place.

There is also a small, VERY loose fitting round plastic cap on the ballast between to two connections. This cap is very loose, rattles around and easily falls off. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose, but if not, why is it even there? If it falls off the first time I drive my car, will it matter? This is probably a minor issue, but with no instructions, and product photos that do not show this cap, I have no idea.

It probably seems like I'm nit picking on a $60 product, but simple, clear instructions and product photos that match the products being sold don't seem like too much to ask - even for a product that is this affordable.

OK, I managed to get the lights installed, but I haven't mounted the ballasts.

Is it normal for the ballasts to make a high pitched buzzing sound when the lights are turned on? Mine sure do.

Mine did that when they were new but the noise went away after a few days.

Thanks. Hopefully, mine will do the same. Everything I have installed on my xB to date has been very high quality and I am convinced I got well-made components that will provide reliable, long term operaton. However, this HID kit screams of cutting corners wherever possible to make it as cheap as possible (no labels on the ballasts, poor instructions, parts that don't match the product photos, etc.) - and that's just the things I can see. It makes me wonder what corners they cut on the parts that matter inside the ballasts that I can't see. I guess that's how they keep the price so low. I just hope cost-cutting doesn't lead to problems down the road. I'd rather pay more for a kit that will last and work reliably for years, but this kit got good reviews in this thread. I guess only time will determine the long term reliability of this kit.

As a follow-up to my own post above, I found this installation guide on a competitor's web site. The wiring is different, but it uses the same black sheet metal brackets as the ones that came with my HIDextra kit and shows how to mount those brackets in a 2nd gen xB.

on your website, it only shows the regular size ballast for sale. Is it possible to buy the 2 slim ballast?

Another question on the HIDextra conversion kits:

Is it normal for the HID lights to flash VERY bright for less than a second every time you turn on your headlights. Mine do that - one VERY bright flash for less than a second every time I turn them on. I'll have to double check to see if it's both lights or just one that's doing it.

I'm concerned that the sudden current surge that causes this bright flash will cause the bulbs to fail prematurely, or worse yet, damage my vehicles electrical system. Is this normal? Does anyone/everyone else see this same behavior? Is this why the more expensive kits come with a relay?

HI,

There is nothing cut within the actual components, the only thing cut is the private labeling, extra packaging and all the markup cost that goes from Manufacturer to distributor to wholesale to retail.

$60 manufacturer with packaging and labes go to distributors who sell 100 then wholesales who sells it at $150 and lastly retail shops who sells at $200, it's all markup cost for their profit.
Thanks`

HID are made out of chemical formulations inside the bulb, it uses a ignitor inside the ballast that causes the chemicals to light up and the lights are normal to flicker and change brightness within the first 20 seconds of startup , usually HID stabalizes to it's correct temperature
and warms/cools to the actual temperature at 2 mins after startup.

Relay has no affect on the surge to the bulbs, it is just how much power you want to give the ballast directly from the car's distribution system or grabbing power directly from the battery.

Thanks~

That's all well and good, but the poroducts I received do not match the product photos on your web site. The web site where I placed my order.

If you don't ship products with labels and adhesive rubber mounting pads, you should not feature those items in the product photos on your web site. To include those items in the photos, but not with the products you are shipping is misleading and confusing.

What I am seeing is not some gradual stabilzation over 20 seconds or two minutes. What I see is a VERY bright flash (easily twice as bright as normal - probably more like 4x as bright) that lasts for less than a second (about 1/4 - 1/2 second).

Is this normal? Does anyone else see this with their HIDextra kits? With other brands?
