In this tutorial, I will be showing how to modify the stock shift boot to accommodate aftermarket shift *****. This tutorial is also helpful to those who want to shorten their shift boot.

Tools needed:
Philips Screwdriver
Needle-Nose Pliers (optional)

This is what your shift boot looks like with a TWM short shifter.

Excess boot fabric...

Look at the excess boot fabric and that ugly shifter ring!

First, take the shift **** off by spinning it counter-clockwise. Place it somewhere safe.


Pop off the rear console cover.


Take the carpet fabric out of the rear cup holder and unscrew the screw. Place the fabric piece and screw in a safe place.


Pull the boot all the way up to clear the shift rod.


While holding the rear with one hand, pull the front of the console upward.

Once the console snaps out, slowly take out the console.

There are two white fasteners in the front of the console. Make sure they are attached to the console.


Turn the boot inside out and you will notice a ring clip holding the shifter ring in place.


Go ahead and take the ring clip off with a pair of pliers...or your fingers, like me.


If you are just adjusting the length of the boot, just adjust the shifter ring where you want, then put the ring clip back on.

If you have an aftermarket shift **** and would like a nicer/better fitting shifter ring, take out the shifter ring from the top of the boot, flip it, and reinsert it back into the boot (from the top).


Adjust the boot length and reinsert the ring clip.


Flip the console over and see how it looks. Make the necessary adjustments and put the console back in.

Depending on the shift ****, you make need to fabricate a spacer to keep the boot up against the shift ****. You can use a small piece of PVC pipe, washers, or even electrical tape!

Personally, I just took the shifter ring out. I kept the ring clip in there to give the boot some "definition."


I folded the shift **** 3-4 times inward.


The, I took the shifter ring stop and cushion off of the shifter rod.



Finally, I put the console back in. To top it off, I put my LIVESTRONG on the boot. It's not much for looks, but I like it.

wow that twm looks short as hell(which would be nice in most cars but our seats are up high) how much lower than stock is it?

wow that is nuts you would be reaching sooo far down . hmm. i guess i could cut my rs-typer short throw but damn that seems low.

 

reaching that far down? I dont think many people would have a problem w/ reaching 3 more inches down. Someone that has the shorter shift ....let me know what you think because i was planning on getting a shorter shift and height shifter soon.

just to let you all know...you don't have to take the entire console apart. the silver plastic ring around the shift boot just pops off with a firm pull on the front of it. quite simpler than taking off my armrest!
