Default Airflow **** Springing back

Hello all. I bought a 2005 XA in October. Almost from the beginning The airflow direction **** would spring back from the defrost position to the front fents or floor and front vents posistion. What was wierd was The air would only come out of the defrost and 2 side vents. Im a mechanic (not vechical) and I dont really get excited about fixing stuff like that when I get home. So i left it like that until this weekend when I decided to try and fix it. I found of there is a metal wire that attaches from the **** to under the dash to some mechanical linkages that change the airflow the the knox is turned. My problem is the wire doesnt move the linkages when turned. I dont know if its too long or what. The good news is I can adjust my airflow now by reaching under the dash, the bad news is I want to use the **** to do it. Anyone else have this problem and is anyone aware of how to fix it?

On a side note i recently dented my driver side front fender. Scratched up the bumper too. Is there anywhere I can order the fender offline so I can just change it out myself. Preferably a site where I can order color. My car is black check and I d like to just be able to switch is out.

Thanks for the help everyone! Other than that, my scion has been a better care then I could of imagined when I bought it.

No place I know of that sells prepainted fenders but I'm sure any body shop will spary it for you before you install it. You should pre fit it first just to make sure it doesn't need any tweeking prior to paint.
Another idea would be to use www.car-part.com and search local salvage yards in your area that might have the right colored used fender in perfect shape ready to throw on.
