CAI filter rubbing on plastic wheel well?
Hello, I was just wondering whether any of you with the AEM CAI had any problems with the filter rubbing against the plastic wheel well.
Mine seems to be doing that and I also get a strange vibrating sound when I go from a dead stop to first and second gears. After that, it's hard to tell.
By the way, I did a search on this issue but couldn't find anything.
Thanks,

Might it be hitting the fog light? At any rate, the rubber connectors will allow for some movement during installation at the side effect of them moving around when you drive it. Just loosen the connectors and reposition it so it isn't hitting stuff. Tighten back up and you're done
Should take 5 minutes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have fog lights installed and the position of the filter is too low to hit the fog light if I did have them. When I reach down and touch the filter, it's definitely resting against the inside of the black plastic wheel well. I've tried just pushing it away and it will move a little but them move back. I don't want to be too forceful with it because I don't really know what I'm doing.
Anyhow, is this something I should take to the dealer to have them fix? I also found a thread about some spacer that may or may not have been installed along with the AEM CAI that would position it away from the fog light (for those that have fog lights). From peoples' descriptions of it, though, I was unable to determine whether or not the spacer was installed.
my weapon r intake does this... i jamed the pipe back as far into the manifold as i could and rotated the filter so it wouldn't press out on the plastic wheel well guard. you can feel it if you press on the plastic guard but you can't see that it's pushed into it anymore. i got an xa by the way, might be different on yours if you got an xb.
yeah they should, I guess I encourage people to try things themselves esp with things like the cold air piping, as its really hard to break anything repositioning it (within reason). Should only need a screwdriver or nutdriver to loosen the metal bands that secure the rubber pipe collectors, then with clean hands twist the pipe so that you get the best clearance from the part in question. Retighten and you're done. I guess its hard to diagnose without seeing the car though.

I just loosened the clamp that holds the rubber that holds the filter element to the CAI pipe. Slid the rubber/filter down about an inch retightened the clamp and now it is out of the way of the fog light. It works, but personally, I am not comfortable with this fix though. I am worryied that I allowing less air in now.
That's exactly what I mean. I guess you could maybe attach a pic of it. But just moving the pickup area an inch isn't going to have a huge impact on your intake airflow, the tube diameter hasn't changed by sliding the filter some, it may have been installed a bit too close to the end when it was put in too I guess. Theres a pretty large rubber end on the filter too, so there is a bit of room to work with by design.

I have the CAI and it was hitting the wheel well and pushing on the fog lights. Went to the dealer and they had no clue how to remedy it. I had to show the dealer what to do. We put a 1/2" longer bolt and spacer on it along with the spacer that came with the kit. This lowered the filter and even at max rev the filter still doesn't push on the fog light. The wheel well rub was remedied by just reloosening the clamps and tightening the lower bolt while holding it where I want it. Then I went back and re-tightened the clamps.
Has anyone with an AEM CAI noticed a problem with the air filter rubbing against the back of the wheel well, especially when going over bumpy roads or speedbumps? If you've heard a "crunch-crunch" sound, this is probably the cause.
Does anyone have a fix or have your dealers been able to fix it? If so, let me know. My dealer contacted Toyota about it but that was 3 weeks ago.
Thanks,
