change your own oil: void warrenty?
Hey this is most likely a dumb question but I must ask: If I dont take my car to a certified mechanic to have the oil changed (ie did it myself) will my warrenty be void because I dont have that mechanics stamp or w/e in the mantenence schedule thing?
Nothing EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER voids a warranty.
To void something means: v 1: declare invalid; "The contract was annulled";
By changing your own oil, they cannot declare your entire warranty invalid.
And you are protected by the Magnusson act, meaning they have to prove by you changing your own oil it destroyed whatever broke.
The only thing changing your oil could do to your warranty, is allow them to deny a warranty claim due to neglect caused by changing your own oil.
I.E; Internal issues cause by no oil put back in....etc
SO NO THEY CANT VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!

yeah, lots of people do their own car maitenance (no, i am not one of them)
but if you worry, and want to, just keep a note pad or book or whatever and keep track of the dates and mileage that you do your maitenance on.

Unfortunately, it's not the same case for everyone.
Take myself for instance, my dealership was offering an exclusive life-time warranty on the drivetrain (engine, transmission, included components, etc). The largest limitation of this warranty is that the oil must be changed within every 5k miles (or ?six months?), and it must be changed by an [/b]SAE certified auto technician[/b].
Meaning if I (average Joe) change my oil by myself, I forfeit over that lifetime warranty on the engine, transmission, and such. Some people would still consider that worth it...
...but I really miss changing my own oil.

In other news, it looks like it's really easy to change the oil for the tC, the placement of the filter is so much better than my last car (Saturn SL); it was literally on top of the axle!
