Changing engine oil
The 2006 Scion XB maintenace guide says to change the engine oil at 5000 miles but the "maint reqd" replace engine oil light in my instrument cluster came on at 7500 miles. What is correct 5000 miles or 7500 ?

5k for the type of oil described in the owners manual.
The light has nothing to do with anything.
Other oils out there are rated for more miles, I think the max I've seen is 25k.
If warranty is a concern, change every 5k and keep the receipts, especially if you are a DIY'er.

Did you buy it used? If so, maybe the previous owner or dealership reset the 'Maint' light...
I passed 10k on my box and my light never came on (assuming the light was reset at 5k by the previous owner)...

my light comes on about every 5k.
I believe it comes on around that time each time it is reset, as stated above ^^^
Did your first oil change happen about 2.5 - 3k? if so, then theres your answer. :D
