Default check engine light is on

I was on the interstate today and all of a sudden my traction control shut off and at the same time my check engine light as well as the vsc light came on.

Has anyone else had this problem? What could be causing this?

have you installed a new cold air intake or something that would effect the ecu ?? If so you need to remove the battery cable for a few minuntes and let it reset !

don't remove the battery cable, just pull the ECU fuse (under the hood fuse box, second 15amp from the firewall) this keeps your radio presets and clock...

i had this problem...
the code came back as evap leak (small)

check the gas cap. take it off and put it back on tightly.

bottom line....unless you scan it for the code, this is just guessing.

if it is the MAF, it is not bad yet.

a bad MAF will not let the car run properly.

To relieve a little tension about this comment. Most if not all cars have preset curves so the car will run fine if the MAF goes bad. The car just can't adjust for current atmospheric conditions.

I dont believe the MAF meter has anything to do with the VSC or traction control lite though?????the check lite comes on whenever there is a malfunction with those displays........

It doesn't have to be BAD, just dirty. I had the same problem and it was because the MAF was dirty from intake filter oil. The car was still running fine, my dash just lit up like a Christmas tree.

actually, a bad MAF will cause the ECU to go into limp mode.
the motor will not rev pas 3000 rpm.

could not do over 40mph...

yeah, sorry if i made it seem like it had to be bad to throw the MIL.

i was trying to say if the car was running fine, don't buy a new MAF because it is not bad.
it could be dirty and need cleaning, but it is nod bad.
