check engine light is on
Did you try the gascap?? or also do you need to change your brakes? Did you check the brake fluid reservoir?
If you are in a really bad need for brakes, this could be causing the problem. It happened to me first with the brakes and then with the gas cap not being on tight...

LOL................the one guy here....lol I also posted a thread on this a few weeks ago............I will keep you posted once Toyota diagnosis the problem.....MAF????gas cap?????brakes??????I didnt think they would cause the VSC or TRAC Control lites to come on...........oh well I could be wrong though........ we will see next week
I am having the same exact problem I dont want to repost here but basically all three lights like you all said and the thing was it happened the same time I installed my system. I did not think that was the problem. I noticed last week I had a sudden drop in rpm's but it went away. Maybe while I was installing my system and having the battery disconnected it caused the problem?
I will wait to see what happens with the other guys diagnosis. Would I have to remover my CAI and sytem so I dont void the warranty?

I know it can be done I just need to know how to get it to turn off or I will just use some black tape and tape over them so I don't see them.
OBD II systems must have a valid post catalytic converter 02 sensor signal. They use this sensor to monitor catalyst efficiency. With no converter your computer will turn on the light and revert to default fuel settings. If you want to run no converter then you need to get a dummy sensor. I don't know where to get them, but they must be available because I've seen them on a TransAm. I know factory cats are restrictive, but I know you can get high flow aftermarket ones (though I don't know for sure about the xB).
I was on a road trip and my "Check Engine" light came on. In my case it was triggered by mileage as a reminder to change the engine oil and there was nothing wrong. It is normally reset by the mechanic at oil changes, but since I have mine changed every 3,000 they didn't catch it.
There is a procedure in the owners manual on how to reset it. Something like holding the trip meter button in while turning on the ignition. Don't remember exactly.

That is not the Check Engine Light. That should be your Engine Maitenance light or what ever that light is called. If you Check Engine Light is on it is not because of milage or your oil change.
the vsc check and trac lights came on when i installed a high flow cat called magna flow and as i mentioned in an earlier post was advised to get the obd ll high flow cat once i instaled the obdll the lights turned off....dont forget to re-set your codes............what mod did you recently do that turned the lighs on????????????
ok, I have talked to a couple of people from muffler shops and they all have said the same thing,
"there is no such thing as a high flow cat, there are aftermarket ones that flow better than the stock one but they are all made to do the same thing and working the same way, restrict airflow to burn off excess gases before it goes out the tail pipe."
So is there no way to not run a cat? if so how?

Ok, here is the skinny on MAF and CEL problem.
If indeed you have a bad MAF (mass air flow sensor) then you will have three lights lit. Your CEL (check engine light), Trac Off, and VSC lights. You will also not be able to go beyone 3,000 rpms. If you dont have all three lights and the rpm problem it is not your MAF.
Now if you only have one light and it is your Mait. Required light then that just means it is time for an oil change. That light is programed to come on at a set amount of time. However you would have seen this coming for weeks cause it works in stages. First it will blink when you start the car. Eventually it blinks then will stay on.
Now if you have just a CEL this could be due to an intake (not too common on scions), gas cap not turned enough, vacum leak, etc. If you only have a CEL and dont notic any performance issues and dont have a lot of engine mods ie.. only an intake. Then it may be as simple as gas cap.
I hope this helps a little.
