Default Clamp Issue

I finally replaced the canister and purge valve. Purge Valve was cake but canister is trying to push me into a near catastrophic mental break. I have all but ONE damn connector disconnected. The hose coming out of what looks like a filter of sorts will not dislodge. I pressed the two little, what looks like, ears but the stoppers would not depress enough to release the hose. I tried with pliers but then it broke. I tried using flathead screwdrivers and it just will not dislodge. It is the last damn thing I need to do.

Can I directly connect the hose to the filter part?

Damn thats mangled. Really two small pocket screwdrivers, one on each side, is your best bet..best of luck
