No. Re-read. Sometimes, it gets stupid.
Mostly, it's being lazy.

Good choices.
What's your mileage on the car?
How often do you plan on changes?

lol nooo i'm not that lazy. My first change was at 5000 (free from scion), i have 2 more free oil changes but i've made some slight engine modifications and i'm sure Scion won't do the other 2 oil changes...so i figured i'd learn now and do my own work from now on.

You can't be sure unless you try.

why wouldn't Scion do the other free changes, just because you mod your car doesn't mean they won't change your oil.

Just bought some BG MOA oil additve online, I'll be covered from now until 60k..... so All I have to do is write down the mileage?

I got some auto trans conditioner also and some 44k. I figure by 60k I'll learn how to change a spark plug.
the only thing I may go to the dealership again for is the high speed balance and alignment services. Maybe a fuel injection flush because you need that device.
And a transmission flush if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to get dirty

thanks for any advice
john
if anything were to happen with the engine, proof of maint. goes a long way with toyota, even if its done yourself.
save all your receipts for oil, filters, etc.
make copies if needed, but doin LOFs urself wont hurt ur warranty, just have proof that it was done, just in case

Umm, not to be a TOTAL d**k, but I dont think you really read the manual. If you did, you need to take a reading comprehension course.

My advice? Fork over the $20 and pay to have your oil changed.

Ok so you've insulted my reading intelligence, and from reading your post i decided not to be so lazy and re-read the manual to see if i could find where exactly it says "Do-It-Yourself Oil Change"...Unfortunatly, i didn't find it. Perhaps I am going blind...and if someone could point it out to me, then that would be great. I know how to change my oil now, but perhaps someone who has NEVER changed their oil will do the same thing i did, and hit a dead end as i've done. Here's exactly what i did:

Opened up my owners manual, flipped to the Table of Contents... Page "ix" in my manual. Looked down the list of where i thought i would find changing your own oil. Ah!! Chapter 7! "DO-IT-YOURSELF MAINTENANCE" Beginning on page 203 in my manual...

i've read why it's bad to have too little oil, why it's bad to have too much oil, why it's bad to spill your oil, why you should use a funnel, where to position the jack, all this in section 7-1. Section 7-2 involves checkingthe oil, engine coolant level, radiator and condenser, brake fluid, power steering fluid, tire pressure, and replacing your tires, and a few other things.

The only thing it says is this:
SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for good fuel economy, and good starting in cold weeather.
All i see after that is info about fuses and tires and other things.

So, I've read my owners manual. Heathen, perhaps we have a different owners manual? Or i'm blind and stupid. According to you, i need reading lessons..i'd rather not waste my time learning how to read all over again, so could you please be so kind as to point out where in the owners manual it is so i can stop bashing my head against the wall?

I hope this stuff works cause driving today,my car is seeming sluggish. I check the odometer and I'm 1700 miles over the 15k oil/atc/44k fuel injector maintanice, and the car feels sluggish after I take my foot off the gas. I don't think I'm going to many miles until those cans of this BG stuff comes......... its probably fuel injector junk building up?????? I'll probably be here online most of the day tomorrow, I'm NOT driving around anymore until I pour this stuff in the tank.

HAHA!!

The first thing I did with that manual is open it to the DIY section and all the info it had was "how to fill the window wash fluid" or "how to check your oil"....WTF?!?!?,,,check your oil? How is that maintenence? Should be common sense in my eyes. Not even a mention of where to find the oil drain plug or filter...worthless manual I say!!

End Rant!

What your looking for is on page 180 in a section called....hmm, I forget now....preventive maintence I think. Anyway, it IS on pg 180.
