Default gas mileage

Ok I have a xB with 1885 miles on it. Seems to me that my gas mileage is getting worse then better. First tank of full gas lasted me about 340 miles....and now it's just getting lower and lower the last one I ran i reset the trip as soon as I was done pumping gas and and the total mileage was 271 on a full tank of gas. I'm using 93 octane. Could it be because my rims went from 15's to 18's? that's the only thing different but even b4 the 18's my gas mileage was starting to get crappy. anyone have ideas?

tia

Larger rims and wheels will negatively affect your gas mileage, there's no way around it, it's just the trade off if you want some bling on your ride.

Also, why are you using 93 octane? The manual says to use regular unless you're engine knocks.

go back to 87 octance unless your engine is knocking. And if it's knocking, you got bigger problems than mpg

any number of things can affect your mpg: your driving habits, stop/go traffic, low tire pressure, passengers.

What's changed besides your wheels/tires since you've been getting decent mpg?

Other than the rims nothing else has changed, so just use regular gas , didn't know that I really never opened the manual. I'll try it with regular gas once this tank finishes.

thanks

I'm running 18's since september and I have been getting 30 mpg since I got the xB last june. I just put an Injen SR intake on so I'm interested to see what happens to the mpg.

I hear the Injen SR should help with your mileage, I want one sooo bad. They look and sound good and the getty-up from a stopped position is a helluva lot better than without.

the 93 octane may be hurting your MPG. if you want more info why, let me know, but you are actually wasting a small portion of your gasoline since your engine isnt able to make use of all of it.

your engine will run worse on higher octane actually...as the computer retards the the timing to compensate for the higher octane..stay with 87

Stay away from 93 ... The runs perfect on 87 ... Unless you get a turbo/super charger/N20 you don't need anything more then 87 ... Also your driving conditions aren't that same every day ... You may have done more stop and go with one tank then you did with another ... stop and go driving kills your gas mileage ... There are lot of factors that contribute to gas mileage ... Just stay off the 93 ...
