I went to Amsoil Synthetic tranny fluid at 5000 miles and changed to the Iridium plugs at 4000.
However, the manual doesn't say anything about changing the tranny fluid except for extreme conditions and the plugs are at 15,000 I believe. I was a little surprised that they did not put platium plugs at least from the factory??

This is wrong. There is a maintenance guide that came with your car. You can also find information on this site: http://www.longoscion.com/Service-Pricing.aspx

The best bet is to speak to your Toyota/Scion dealership and ask what they reccommened on the changes.

Oil depends on which oil you are using ... Conventional, Semi-Synthetic or Fully Synthetic ... I would change you factory ATF at 50k Brakes are good untill they start sweaking ... Spark plugs are good for awhile ...

BUT call you local Toyota/Scion and see what they say!

spark plugs are only a few dollars and its worth it to change it more often to ensure preformance and fuel economy. some people change it with every oil change, that is a bit extreme, but you get the idea.

Oil changes depend on the oil you are using. Synthetics are the best you can put in your engine. They provide the best protection and can increase MPG. Conventional oils are good for only about 3,600 miles. Scion recommends 5K. You can go longer using sythetics. I'm changing at 35K. Amsoil provides oils for 7,500, 25,000, and even 35,000 miles changes.

I don't belive using synthetic oil means you could go longer without changing it. But I guess it's something to look into.
I say for the cost of syntheic vrs regular oil, even if you change your regular oil every 3,000 miels would less expensive than when you use synthetic one time.

Great info!

I just wanted for readers to notice just because they oil might be synthetic they should wait longer to change their oil. Its just the same with regular oil. All those recommendations are with normal wear & tear (don't ask me to discribe normal).
Even on the info you have, you indicated to use manufacture recommendations, by going with a synthetic oil & waiting longer than in this case Toyota recommends to change the oil, you are risking having problems with any issues that could come about.

Can you imagine going to the dealer with engine problems & telling the Serv. Writter last time you changed your oil was 10,000 miles ago, and the only answer you'll have when he asks why did you wait that long is that is "the bottle of the oil I'm using indicated I could go that long".
Right away the Dealer will bring up their (manufactures) recommendations & most likely blame or indicate whatever problems you are having could be due to improper maintance.

I believe the manual suggests plug changes at 30k.

mine will be replaced before that.

Amsoil warranties their products, even if your auto is still under fact warranty. I can provide the warranty if you'de like. They've been doing this since 1972!!!
