Though it does not stay like that for "long", it takes a few days to a week for it to turn to a gold tint. Though it might change from a polished silver, it takes but 10 minutes to go over the surfaces to make it the "chrome" looking metal again. Plus the gold doesn't look too bad anyways

Yeah the whole point of doing this is to remove oil marks left by touching the header with your hand. If and when you ride around for a while and hear up the header it wont be shiny as before but atleast the discolouration will be even in all spots.
Like on my header when i installed it i used gloves but whoever handled it before me touched it with their thumb. So when i ran it for a while i got a fat thumb print right in the middle of the header. everything else is fine.
Headers are made to change color. We are just lucky that we are able to see ours. Usually the are hidden.
