Default Low RPM Pinging

i have a 05 XB with 60,000 miles on it and i have always used premium gas in it yet it makes the pinging like i was using shabby low octane gas. it always happens between 1500 and 2500 rpm. i have also been seeing my mpg go down since this has been happening. any ideas on what it could be? i searched on here and couldnt find anything similar to what i am experiencing. any links or advice would help.

thanks

First question would be why you are using premium.

that is just a normal sound on the 4cly engine my xb has been making that noise since new just something that you have to get used to go get a fuel system cleaner and you mpg's should go back up. plus right now there is more ethonal in the gas for winter and that is going to cause the mpg drop

mine just started making the pinging about a month ago but i will fully try some fuel system cleaner again. i used the prolong when it first started making the noise and it didnt quite cure it, it just went away for a little.

could my valve timing be off?
