Default Maintenance light - Oil Change

Well, my Maintenance Required light came on a short while ago, stating that I
needed to change my oil. It would only blink about 6 times after I started the
car, then it would go away. It's been like that for a while.

The only reason I haven't changed it yet is because a friend of mine told me
that if you change the oil when the light is in this stage (Blinking only when
the car is started), then it wont go away, even after reseting it.

He told me to wait it out another 100 miles or so and it should come on solid.
At that point the oil can be changed, and the light reset. He said this has
happened to him before, so that's why I believe him.

Though truthfuly I don't want to run my car much longer than it needs to be.
I'd like to change the oil without having to wait another 100 miles.

Is there any truth to this statement, that the light wont reset if it's only
blinking? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Seriously SEARCH!! Did ever occur to you to open up and READ your owner’s manual?

EDIT: let me add this, Im not trying yo flame you, but this topic comes up at least 3 times a month. That, and the "blue light on the dash" topic

your owners manual will give you instructions on how to reset the light.

You should change your oil every3-5K...

I understand your concern for wanting people to search through their owners
manual, and to make proper use of the forums here on ScionLife. But my
question doesn't refer to when my oil should be changed.

I know I'm overdue for an oil change. I'm not that oblivious. What I AM
asking is that if I change it now with just the light blinking, and I try to
reset it, will it actually reset?

As I said before, my friend had changed his oil when the light was only
blinking before and when he tried to reset it, it wouldn't go away. Only
when he changed his oil the next time, after the light had gone solid, did
it go away.

Please don't tell me to read stuff if you can't even take the time to read
what my own post is about. Not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just
sayin'.

There is no sensor which knows when you change the oil. The light only goes off the mileage. Change the oil when you need. I'd wager your friend didn't reset the maint light as required. I know I have reset the light right when it started to come on and I had no trouble.
