I'd have the balance checked on your wheels before I'd
worry about alignment.

Alignment sets the ALIGMENT of the wheels, which is to
say they all point correctly.

If the wheels are even a little bit out of balance, they will
vibrate the steering wheel at higher speeds. The more the
wheels are off, the worse the vibration will get, and at lower
speeds to boot!!

Alignment would effect tire wear more then anything else.

Forgot to add, if you lowered your car on stock shocks, and
they have taken a beating, you could also be feeling the
looseness of a blown shock or more likely a strut.

The easiest way I've found for spotting a bad shock or strut
was to have a friend drive around you while your on a fast
road, and watch how your wheels bobble.

You may have seen on the road these old cars with three
wheels rolling smoothly down the road, and one bobbing up
and down like mad. That would be a blown or leaking shock/strut.

When was the last time you had the tires rotated and rebalanced? Are you using hub centric rings? I f you are be aware that the the front hub has a 54.1mm and the rear is also the same - but there is a slight step up to 55.1mm about 2mm from the drum brake mounting surface -- hope this helps

get your tire rebalanced ASAP. one or more is out of balance. If you keep driving on it your itres will be out of round and not able to be fixed only changed.... your tires is bouncing causing the vibration....go get it fixed before it escalates

Get those front tires balanced ASAP!

I have TRD 18" with Falken tires. I had a professional tire shop mount the tires to the rims. The shop commented how well made the TRD wheels were (because they were hardly out of balance)....

After about two weeks my steering wheel began to shimmy! they re-balanced the front two tires, and now my ride is very smooth!

Q. What Are Hub-centric Rings; Do I Need Them?
A. Most aftermarket wheels are manufactured with a center hole that will fit a wide range of vehicles. The hub-centric ring is used to fill any gap that may exist between this hole and the vehicle's hub, thus centering the wheel on the axle. If you have vibrations after installing new wheels, chances are hub-centric rings were not used.

Here's a pic of my wheels without the HCR in place, the lugnuts are not tightened down in this pic, btw.. See how the center is off.Theoretically, tapered lugnuts should center the wheel as they are tightened. But what if someone slams the lugnuts on with an airgun and don't torque it nice and evenly? It may not line up right. at higher speeds, it becomes more noticable.. Here's a good place to find them, there may be others:

You may want to call some local tire shops, but I found that not many people knew what I was talking about. I stumped both the guys at GoodYear until one of the techs came in that knew what I was talking about. The guys at wheelworks said "C'mon down we've got a whole bag of them. You're welcome to see if one fits" No, I need 4 in size xx.x by xx.x "Well, they don't have any sizes on them, but you're welcome to look in the bag..."

BTW, the inside diameter for an HCR for xA/xB is 54.06mm (sometimes shown as 54.1) You just need to know the centerbore size of your wheels.

I'd try to isolate the shaking to see if it is just one or a pair that is causing it. I'd put the stockers back on and confirm that it doesn't shake with them. Then swap one pair of your wheels into the front. If it doesn't shake, move the same pair to the rear and put the same pair of stockers back onto the front. If it still doesn't shake, try the other pair of wheels and do the same thing. It'll be a PITA, but you should be able to isolate the shaking. I find it hard to believe that they'd all be problematic.
