Default Noticed a weird problem.....

ONLY when it rains, when i go above 35 mph, a very noisy air sound comes in from somewhere in the rear. Cant tell exactly where, but it turns on instantly like a light switch when i hit the 30s. Bad part is, it wont stop. It continues until i slow down. Its like im driving in a wind tunnel. I can hear it even with my music on.

Anyone else have this very unusual problem? This should be fun explaining to the the toyota service department. Im sure they will look at me like I am high.

its actually more of a sound like the back window is open. (if the tC back windows could open that is)

yep checked sunroof, windows, everything. Since I havent had any back seat passengers yet, havent had the chance for anyone to pinpoint where the sound is coming from It sounds as if air is coming in through the trunk door. But that still doesnt explain why it happens only when its raining.

I was hoping someone else had heard of this before.

Of course it does...the rain getting kicked up and trapped in the rear wheel-wells is loud.

I get the same thing when it's been raining. A remarkable amount of road noise that does indeed sound as if it's coming from the rear wheel wells. It's rather annoying and much louder then I've experienced on other cars (not that I'm complaining as I love the car...but still). Anyway, is there anything that might mitigate this noise (not including "turning up the volume" on the stereo), would mudguards hel p at all (yeah, I know, a stretch).

Oh dont get me wrong, I love the car, and actually am a little too obsessed with it at the moment, but thats another story.

I guess a problem relating to sound is hard to explain in words on a forum. You might be right about the wheel wells things (even though I dont know what that means yet). But I have driven many cars before (rain or shine) and this noise thing with the tC has been really annoying.

Honestly it doesnt sound like the typical noisier driving from rainy conditions. Sounds more like air is leaking in somewhere. I checked the rubber seals for the trunk door, and it seems fine.

I'm sure it's normal. Most cars in this price range, new or old, probably make a similar sound. You can probably fix it by removing the door panels, gutting the interior, and laying down some sounddeadening. (or pack up your stuff and move to phx)

Same thing happened to me. Started yelling at my daughter telling her to close the window, hehe. I apologized.

yes it is water hitting the wheel wells and since thses r cheap cars theres not very much deadening (if any) back there so!!! i noticed it in my box the first time the road was wet. it never sounded like that in my supra and bmw. but my old datsun wagon was way loud. even louder than the box (by alot actually)
