Default oil level

hi i bought my tC a couple of days ago and just checked the oil level yesterday and it is a bit over the full mark. its hard to tell because the oil is still pretty clear but i would say it is almost a centimeter over the line. is that something to be concerned about? is a centimeter more oil enough to get air in my oil or break any seals? how many quarts extra is that?

If it really is a centimeter over the full mark, that's bad. I would think that's about a full quart over the necessary amount.

there is a F for full on the dipstick.. then there is a bar |

looks like this (right handed holding dipstick) | F it's supposed to be at the mark or between the mark and the F on the dipstick, if it's higher, then it should be drained out..

hope that helps

It is difficult to know how far over it is. The reason is that most oil pans are irregular in shape, not to mention the oil pump and other irregular shaped peices contained. So a centimeter at the bottom of the stick != the same amount of oil as a centimeter at the top of the stick. But if it looks too far over, then simply drain a bit out and you will be ok.

Jesus Christ ... some things are just a bit over done arent they?

First, where did you check you oil? Make sure you check it on a flat and level surface. If your driveway is on an angle, it will throw off your level reading. Kinda like taking a glass of milk, and tilt it slightly, doesnt read level anymore does it?

Next, if it just a hair over, dont sweat it. If you look at thet dip stick, a good rule of thumb is break the measuring part into 4 equal parts. Each one of those parts is about a quart. Youll know when you have too much oil in the engine. It will run like your pulling a 2 ton weight, and your not. Its too much of a pain in the ___ to remove a hair above the Full line.

Ultimately, your not racing your engine, so piston slap isnt really an issue. Just leave it alone, youll be just fine. Enjoy your new ride.
