Make sure your back hatch is closed all the way.

I had a problem the second day I had my xB where I was outside of the car but could not lock it with the keyless entry device. I realized that after opening the rear hatch and firmly shutting it again, I was able to lock the doors remotely. I don't know why the "door open" symbol didn't light up on the dash, but it probably didn't because the rear hatch wasn't completely open.

Anyhow, try this and let us know if it works.

Good luck.
