i have an 06 5-speed tc and lately ive been noticing a slight whine when i first push down on the gas pedal. its very minor and it may have always been there and could be common with 5-speed (this being my first 5-speed and all) or tc's in general. It only seems to happen when i lightly press down on the gas pedal. i can only describe it as a whine or maybe slight air leak. its most noticible in 5th gear on the freeway

im putting an exhuast in this weekend, and i dont want to bring the car in to the dealership and have them bs about it being a leak in the exhuast etc etc...

is this sound normal?

i think it's the whistle also, from the way you describe it. it comes from the stock airbox, it's normal.
for me, it's more pronouced in 2nd and 3rd gear around 25-35 mph, when i hit the gas.

i think, i think, this might be because of the tiny hole in the bottom of the stock airbox. i know that tiny hole is there to drain out any water. i'm going to put a piece of electrical tape over that hole tomorrow and see what happens!

 

it was intake whistle, i had my roomate give the car a little gas while i had the hood popped and the sound was coming from the stock air box.

I had the whistle with the stock, and my injen cao. I can actually make it whistle the for a sustained period of time by kinda feathering out the accelerator... when it starts to whisltle just keep your foot at the same spot on the gas pedal.
