Default Spark Knock

Hey guys. My tC is now at 9,600 miles. Two weekends ago I had the oil changed at the dealership (3,000 mile oil change intervals) and just last week I heard a slight pigging coming from the motor. I figured it was probably nothing, but over the weekend I heard it more and more. It's most noticable while driving through town around 1,800 - 1,900 rpm in a lower gear. It sounds like spark knock to me. This is my first Toyota. Are Toyota motors known for spark knock or did the kids at the dealership mess up my oil change and do something wrong?

Toyota's are definitely not known for engine knocking.

Where do you go for gas?

Have you checked your oil level lately?

Any burning smell from the oil?

Since you can't check the viscosity grade of you oil just by looking, you should bring it back to the dealership and have them inspect it just in case. It may be possible that they used the wrong grade of oil for your car.

I was thinking they may have used the wrong oil as well. The oil level is fine. The guys (kids) working on that particular day didn't seem to be all that knowledgeable about what they were doing.

I can tell you that my box was making the same pinging noise @ 1900 RPMs. I was told to change out my plugs, and gap them a lil bigger. Now pinging has gone away.

They came out of the block @ .040. I gapped them a little larger, to about .042. Knock is gone, but my fuel consumption is up.
