It opens like a clam shell...it is hinged on the back.
on the tC, all you do is move it slightly enough to get the filter out. there is a clip in hinge on the tc, and you just slide the tab out, and about 2 inches of room to work.
You should be able to move the top (clipped portion and tube) without having to remove that tube. You probably need to pull on the upper part, since it's held in my sliding the end tabs into the receptacle. hope that makes sense.
and I replace the air filter every 13-15,000 miles. Manual recommends it at 30,000 miles, naw, I do it every year.
