tC's 07 oils scpecs how bad could this be for the engine?
changed my oil today with Mobil 1 full syntetic 5w30 but when i looked at my oil cap it show that was suppossed to be 5w20 and i started to look prev file maintenance by the dealership and they where changing my tc oil with 10w30 for almost a year.... how bad could this be for the engine life?
Hard to say what it could of done, but with the thicker weight it will basically be working harder to lubricate everything. The engines suggesting 20 weight will have tighter clearances for the oil to run through. By using 30 the oil pump will work harder to get through these spaces and the oil will not perform as well lubricating. I wouldn't say it will damage the engine, but it will make it work harder.
If you switch to a 0W20 or 5W20, your mpg will rise and your engine will run as intended. Engine might feel smoother, peppier to a degree, and will run more efficient. Probably not THAT noticeable between them, but will work better.
Just switch on your next change!
I had an oil change done at my dealer and the sticker said 5W30 so I immediately talked to the service dept, but they did say 5W20 was used, just the sticker was wrong (receipt did say 5W20). Thankfully once the freebie changes were up I did them myself correctly with the right grade oils...
Using Pennzoil Platinum 0W20 now, feels GREAT in the engine. Smoother and quieter then M1 I ran twice before it. I suggest running PP if you can over M1 (plus, shows better wear numbers most of the time versus M1 in oil analysis tests), and its cheaper!
win win!

wtf 10w30? i would put that crap in a really old car...
10w30 is really thick syrup almost.
for the newer tC its recommended to use 0w-20 or 5w20.
im using 0w-20 because it doesnt get cold where i live...
put the grade that your oil cap says and you'll be fine.

actually you'll be fine in 5w30. Just change to 5w20 later if u want. The 05's recommended 5w30, but its the same engine. why? well im too lazy to explain but no big deal. Also if u ever read on oil viscosities, 30 is just a bit thicker in hot conditions. basically a 5w30 would mean the rating would be at 5 in cold conditions and 30 in warmer conditions. And 10w30 doesnt mean its for old cars. My homies beamer uses 10w30. Peace

Sadly, that makes no sense. Using a 0w-20 because it DOESN'T get cold where you live? Do you understand what oil grades mean?
0W20 will offer no benefit to you. 0W means that the oil has superior cold-flow viscosity better for lubricating an engine in COLD conditions (W), versus say 5W, 10W, etc... Using it in a year round warm state will do nothing for you. Basically, the 0W20 will flow in say -30F (temp chosen is just example, not fact) more freely then a 5W20 will.
I mean there no harm in using it at all, but I just wanted to correct you on how you explained your reasoning.
