Terry Cloths?

Terry Cloths?
A while ago I bought some 100% cotton terry cloths from walmart after reading that I should get them from Autopia.com. I tried to use them to buff off wax and to apply Scratch-X but I noticed that they leave behind residue, like little white strings fall off of them. Is this normal or are these just poor quality? What are terry cloths ment to be used for anyway?

Microfiber is the way to go. That or diapers. The terry cloth towls are a very loose weaved fabric an throw off the strands as you have noticed. They are good for drying your hands or cleaning up oil.

^^ That's exactly what I use mine for. Polishing my exhaust tip, my muffler, and most recently, my new strut bar. I bought it used and it had a pretty bad layer of oxidation on it. Giving it a bit of Mother's mag/aluminum polish and buffing it off with a terry cloth towel gave it some awesome shine.
