Default Throttle body cleaner

I have throttle body cleaner, i removed the intake but when i start the car it will die. How do i prevent the car from dying when i turn it on without the intake? The throttlebody cleaner instructions say to leave car on, and spray into the throttle body while moving the butterfly plate.

p.s. where is the lever to move the butterfly plate manually? thanks

Um, don't do that. I don't care what the damn can says. NEVER spray cleaner into the intake of a running vehicle. I've seen two of the biggest fireballs I've ever seen take the skin off a technician's face because of this exact proceedure.

A good throttle body cleaner will be able to clean everything just fine without the motor running. You simply use it to blast any deposits off of the butterfly and body sides. If yours doesn't do that try another brand. I suggest Wynns A.I.C. (air intake cleaner).

If you're looking to clean the fuel system, buy an in-tank additive. I suggest the Toyota Fuel System Cleaner. It's a small can (like a V8 juice can) and treats the system very well.

Good luck and don't get yourself burned.

what i did was just spray it at the butterfly, put hte intake back on and start the car. I can't figure out how to manually open the butterfly with a lever ? But i did this process like two times and the car started up really rough at first and died. but i restarted and it was rough but everything smoothed out after 2 minutes. is this normal? or should i take it into a mechanic to get things checked out?

It was probably just burning off any excess cleaner. If it has smoothed out you should be OK.

How dirty was it? How many miles on it?

What car do you have? If it's xA/xB, just tug on the throttle cable. If you have the tC, the butterfly is controlled electronically, and if you don't have your intake trac hooked up, your MAF won't read correctly and therefore won't operate the TB correctly so your car won't run correctly...get the idea?

This stuff is highly flamable as is the propellant. With a running engine you can catch even a minor backfire through the throttle body and everything goes boom in a big way!

One was an Olds Intrigue and the other was an Olds Aurora (this is back when we were an Oldsmobile dealership too).
