Default transmission..?

i have an 05 xb with about 6000 miles on it and im noticing more and more that when im going 40mph if i let off the gas around 37-38 mph the rpms shoot up to around 3000 and a couple of times higher. the car has an incredible feeling of overrevving in a gear. i took it to the dealer and they had it all day and said they couldnt duplicate it so there was nothing they could do. anyone have any idea what is wrong or is it that nothings wrong at all. i just dont want to put out for a new trans when the warranty ends(thats my kinda luck).

A few questions:

First, you have an auto, right? I'm assuming so.

Second, this only happens when you hit 40 or so, and slow down? It's not an issue of not shifting into O/D, is it? So it's like you are driving around 40, and are probably in O/D, then as you start to coast and slow down, the tranny goes into 3rd, and associated is a jump in RPMs. Does this sound right?

Are you possibly hitting the O/D off button on the stock shifter with your leg?

Is the engine warm (is that blue light on your dash off?)

yes i have an auto. its only around 40 mph and i always have OD on its nowhere near my legs or hands when i drive so im not hitting it and as soon as it hits around 37 its shoots up in rpms which gives it that feeling of over revving where it feels like a damn elephant sits on the hood of the car. and the engine isnt warm or over heating at all.
