Wax Test!! (56k=REDRUM)
Great job!
I doubt I'll spend the time or money to use the Zymol (especially since I am scared of buffers) but it's good to know the NXT I've been using is up there. Thanks for taking the time, and be sure to update in a few weeks to comment on longevity.

Wow, nice write up...
For many years I never would have even spent over $10 on a bottle of wax, but the paint is so crappy on these Scions that I'm ready to try anything. The $60 stuff still seemed out of hand for me, so I'm glad to hear the $15 stuff is all I need!
Thanks!

Any questions, comments, or clarifications, feel free to post here!

OK, one question I didn't pin down that I'm surprised nobody asked, is...
What did I do the rest of the box with?
Well, I wound up doing the Zymol over everything else.
My plan is to do the Zymol everywhere I can get the buffer, and use Tech wax on the
lower portions of the box that get a lot of dirt and tar kicked up, as well as in the
door thresholds, around the hatch, and under the hood where the Zymol would be
forced to be done by hand. I'd much rather use the Polymer based Tech Wax that's
easy to put on and take off in those places.
What, you guys don't wax the paint under your hood and in the door jams?
SHAME on you!!
As for using the buffer.
The Porter Cable Random Orbital buffer/polisher is REALLY fool proof. It's not like
a rotory where if you hold it in once place too long you cook the paint right off. The
PC is like being able to wiggle your hand 15/16" of an inch 4000 times a minute
without getting tired, and throwing some wax under it.
Honeslty, the only way I can see someone hurting their car with the PC buffer, is if
they set it down on the paint while it was on and walked away. It's really that easy.
I'd like to point something else out. I spent over $250 on Zymol product, I basically
put together a "starter kit" of the products I figured I'd be most likely to use.
Of all the applicators, wheel cleaners, wash, paint cleaner, wax and all that, the only
products I'd buy again (because of cost, not quality) would be the HD-Clense paint
cleaner, the Wax, and the Seal which is a rubber restorer for the door seals on your
car. I was really hooked on the Zymol Clear which is their wash soap, but for the
cost, I could get two or three gallon bottles of the NXT Wash, which IMHO might
just be a bit better. But that's a whole 'nother article that I'm working on...
So stay tuned.

Plus, part of my work was to prove to myself that I don't need to spend $62 on an
8oz jar of wax for a good look. I came from the Porsche club, and those guys are
nutty about the Zymol. I can see why, it's a good, hand made product. But for my dad
and friends, I'm going to recommend the NXT without regrets.
I'm sticking witht he Zymol Wax, but I'm going with what works best for me all around.
So I've ditched many products and gone to other products because they work well
and are paint/chrome/glass/environment safe (not to mention usually cheaper)
I obsess because I can do better.
Sorry but the water beads the same on both sides. Water beads are actually a bad thing. I thought that they act like a magnifying glass to etch into the paint.
Waxy on - Waxy off! just so my arm doesn't fall off I'm fine.

If I'm washing the box, I'll be drying it ASAP.
If it rains while I'm at work, I know my wax is protecting my paint from UV.
So I'm not that worried. That's the point of the wax, is to protect your paint.
i have never been a big fan of using a DA to apply or remove wax. The best way i have found is to use a slighly warmed wax and just apply and remove by hand. The whole reason to apply wax is to leave a coat of wax on it. you can get a great smooth surface by using a clay bar and some detailer occassionally. but yeah the paint is really thin. i scratched mine with my shoe while getting out the other day. I would love to reshoot my box, even the same color but just so i could add about a gallon of clear. then i could color sand and buff with out fear of getting close to the paint.
dark colors are the worst! I use a product from www.waxdepot.com goes on and off very easy it is called clear coat cream.
have anyone heard of this product? Looking at the testimonal pictures makes me want to buy it. Maximus96 was raving to me about this wax when he used it on his new car.

It's as if the wax is a mirror finish. The product is very specialized you have to cure it before applying the polish.
