Default Winter Maintenance

I have an 06' Tc with almost 30,000 miles on it. What should I be doing to prepare it for a harsh New England winter?

Check the antifreeze protection. You should be good there though. Belts and hoses should be up to snuff as well as your windshield wiper blades.

Proper tire inflation and tread depth. Most states require a minimum of 2/32 of an inch tread depth to pass inspection. That however is not nearly enough to get through heavy rain or especially snow safely.
I personally buy new tires if the tread depth is less than 4/32 of an inch if winter is approaching. The way I see it a new set of tires is about the same price as my collision deductible should I lose it and wreck. Running a dedicated set of snow tires at all four corners is even better, but can be a pricey proposition for someone on a budget.

Definitely check the condition of your battery. I believe Auto Zone will do a battery analysis test for free.
Also, lubricate your door jab weather seal strips with a can of silicone lubricant spray. Prevents your doors from being frozen shut.
I would also check the serpentine belt and radiator hoses as previously mentioned.

Cosmetics baby! Who cares about function? hhaha. Treat that paint before the salt eats it up.

Thanks....

Just some wax on the paint or is there something special to keep the salt and stuff from doing any damage?

wax is a good start, i am not too experienced in this, but I have heard that paint sealant is good for right before winter because it lasts a lot longer than wax. I don't have a testimonial for you though.
