*READ PLZ*car audio career...AGAIN!!
well i have a question for people who work at shops but didnt go to a school to learn about car audio installation.
what did you do to learn and what did you have to do to step into the game seriously to get paid doing this stuff professionally?
im asking because there are no local schools and it seems like most of the local people around here that work in shops are douchebags with just enough lung capacity to only give short answers like " I got MECP certified" "all you have to do is take the test" "Im busy come back later" the most help and information i can really get is from this site and from other sites. i think i might start having to be an a hole or something till i can get some good advice

the easiest way to get into the car audio field aside from knowing someone already in the field is to go to a big box store (Circuit City, Best Buy, Tweeter, ect...). these companies are more inclined to hire people with less experience then your typical mom and pop shops. Right now with Circuit City getting rid of their higher paid employees there should be some openings that need to be filled.
if an install position is not available get into the car audio sales floor if possible. once you get hired then you can talk to the car audio shop manager about moving into the shop when a position comes available.
I started at Circuit City in the ACE department selling (ACE was the small electronics like cordless phones, boomboxes, ect...) back in 1992 then worked my way into the car audio sales floor then into the roadshop.
good luck with your job hunt. the car audio field has changed ALOT and to make it in this industry you need to be able to change with it.

Ah yes...the American dream. Take a hobby you love to do, and find a way to make it a full time job. Then you work at it all day, every day untill you suck every ounce of fun from it and you now hate doing it.
Just messin' whicha. Good luck!
