i kinda like the turn based battle.. any feed backs on the new battle system.
To me the turn based battles are still #1 in my opinion. Everything was more organized and the battles were epic! I loved the larger than life battles, for example fighting the Weapons in FF7. So far i haven't ran into anything larger than some mimic queen in the lowtown sewers in FF12 that seemed larger than life. The battle system in FF12 to a novice player seems kinda messy. Once you get some experience and get some useful Gambits, its all fun. Gambits are commands that you can preprogram into your other characters such as "Ally: HP <40% ----- Cura". So in this case, if any of your allies drop below 40% of their HP this character will automaticly cast cura. There TONS of gamits and TONS OF TONS of combinations you use. Everythings prioritized so i'd suggest placing heal gambits higher than attack Gambits. With some tinkering you can program all allies to fight own their own. I like to keep the Group Leader's Gambits OFF and just control that person during battle to keep a feeling of control. All in all, the new battle system is FUN! The quicking attacks (FF12 limit breaks), aka "Mist charges" are pure eye candy. I haven't seen any of the Espers (FF12 summons), but from looking through my Strategy guide, there's some pretty SWEET summons in this one!! Ulitma is a summon in this game!! Remember Ulitma from FF7?. No, i don't mean Ulitma Weapon, i mean the spell "Ultima", well anywho, she....., yes, i said SHE, is a summon in this game. Oh and there's no Bahamat in this game!! WTF!? Of course there's a CID. Well, 2 of them actually, haha.
no bahamut? awww.. he was my favorite of all the GF's.. o well.. ultima is also good but bahamut is cooler IMO. i was wondering about switching that turn based thing and i also think it is still the best battle system coz sometimes i take a long time to figure out what to do next. especially the hard bosses.. hmm it'll take some time getting used to the new battle system. and the gambits.. oh i still have havent started playing the game coz i'm still finishing xenosaga 3

Anytime during a fight you can press X to bring up the battle menu (Looks just like all the other battle menu's from FF games) and it FREEZES the action. Sorta like on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. So you can take as much time as you please to gather up a strategic attack. Pre-emptive attacks are EASY to pull off on this game. See an enemy and Press X and have everyone attack that enemy, and as soon as you run up on it, WAM! Everyone wails off on it even before it starts targeting any allies. (Have to issue an attack command to all allies in order to pull off a pre-emptive battle because Gambits only start targeting enemies when you're right up on them.)

Bought mine last friday and only got to play a bit, but as soon as i'm done wit the test on monday, i'm gonna put in some more hours. For now, i'm still in the beginning and forgot wat im suppose to do. As far as the battle system goes..its a lil akward at first since i didnt really like FFXI's fighting that much anywayz, and i got so used to the old ways of final fantasy, but its growing on me. The graphics are beautiful and everything else has been pretty nice.

Don't get discouraged at the beginning, the story is dull and dry at the beginning, and so is the opening CG part. Last night i laid down some serious play time and only at around 20 hrs and already half way through the walkthrough section of the strategy guide!? Just picked up the first Esper. Beligas (sp?) Pretty cool. The summons in this game act like the summon Aeons from FFX. Summon a monster and they fight with you, only this time you can't control their actions. The game needs to be tougher, seriously. I've fought 4 bosses so far and took them all down with 1 attack. Stringing along quickening mist attacks with "Black Hole". Deals 60,000+ damage

/\/\ Concordences (sp?) is what the final attacks are refered to in the strategy guide. To get black hole you have to land a 4 hit string of either Level 2 mist or Level 3. You don't have to pull off 8, 9, or 10 strings to deal major damage. The string thing is a chance to achieve a desired concordence. I'll post up in the morning what the concordences are and how to get them, but black hole is the strongest one and you get that by stringing 4 level 2 or 4 level 3 mist quickenings. Now when you start stringing them along, when you activate another person they may use their level 1 attack, so you kinda have to be aware of what level mist attacks you have available and also have lady luck on your side. But you can actually deal more damage wtih a 4 string black hole than a 10 hit string with torrent or cataclysm.

I'll post these up when i get home (at work now)

Strategy guides are a life saver!

Well, its really easy all you need to do is use the black magic of fire on an enemy and it dies on one hit. Since the enemy is on such a high level everytime you kill it you get level ups. I will post pics of a screen shot of my 999999 HP........

Def been slacking the past 3 days. Hadn't gotten a single minute in play wise. Been so slammed when i get home from work i just sleep all day instead. Gonna try to get some time in today hopefully. Right now i'm trying to cross the Giza Plains (where you made the sunstone earlier in the game, now only this time the "Rains" have come which the villagers spoke of earlier and some strong monsters roam the plains), then from there have to pass the Ozoone plains. Haven't gotten past the Giza plains yet only because went back and caught up on Marks (Hunts posted up in pubs), and Montblanc's Elite hunts (Clan hall in northern Rabanatre).

damn you guys I really am considering buying a PS2 just to play this game, I played final fantasy VIII a long time ago and loved it and XII for some reason reminded me of it. Now my urges are just building, especially since ps2's will go down in price since the release of the ps3

I am excited. I just read the review for this game yesterday and I have to get it. I was going to buy a PSII just for Guitar Hero, but I think FFXII is going to be my first game. I was so excited, I got out my PS last night and played some IX. (I still haven't completely beaten that game.) Hopefully, I can find a cheap, used PS II so I can play this weekend.

Finally got to put some more hours into it tonight. They really made it difficult to level up. I remember having a lvl 80+ squall in FFVIII by the end of the first disc.. , but i suppose this was intentional, to make the game more interesting. Either way, continuing on this weekend,
