Anyone here familiar with Mitsubishis?
Reason I ask is I have a technical problem with my fiancee's 2002 Lancer, and the only response I'm getting over on the evolutionm.net board is the chirping of crickets. Anyway, the problem is that the fan for the heater blower doesn't run when the dial is in positions 1,2, or 3, but it does work in position 4, regardless if its heating or cooling. The A/C does work fine, as does the heat. Just not the fan. So I took it to my closest "Mitsubishi dealer" (which ceased being a Mitsu dealer about a month ago, and I'm not driving 40 miles to the next closest one!), and the checked everything out, and the tech determined I had a bad blower motor resistor. He said he could solder it and then it would work fine, and what do you know, it did work. For a DAY. And now, the fan again just runs in position 4. And yeah, the people over in the Mitsubishi forum are as useless as **** on a bull. So any input you guys can give would be tremendous.
Sounds like he either did a p!$$ poor job soldering it, or it is overheating and breaking the connection for some reason. I would need to see the schematic of the blower and blower control layout to say any more though. I am not sure how those are laid out.
The soldering job looked ok to my untrained eyes, but I haven't had an opportunity to pull it out and see what kind of condition its in. And I haven't been able to find any technical data yet either.
P!$$ poor may have been a bit harsh.. anyone can do a p!$$ poor job every now and then accidentally
But that is one reason it could have failed again. But I would be wondering why the solder joint broke the first time, especially if it was overheated.
Well I don't think it ever broke originally; I think it was soldered to bypass something. From what I can see of it, they soldered the switch closed. I'll try to grab a picture of it, although I'm not sure it'll help. Stupid Mitsubishis...
