i wasn't aware that any of these things were illegal..... can't you do any engine mods you want as long as it fits the sound db limit and passes emission testing (aka C.A.R.B. limits)? I live in Florida anyway, so C.A.R.B. doesn't apply to me. Hypothetically... if I installed a CAI and passed emission testing with it, I couldn't be fined could I?

Only for the tC's are ALL intakes illegal, the xB's and xA's have CARB legal Headers and Intakes iirc.

Also, Hondas have almost everything CARB legal for them, from intakes to turbos,, those lucky basteds.

No. ALL SRI and CAI for the Scion tC are currently illegal. However, you'll be OK if you don't do something stupid while driving or have an obviously illegal mod on you car.

technically, any non-OE/aftermarket part you put on your car is illegal. Even a sub box in the trunk.

Look up your state's DOT/DMV laws.

of course, if they ticketed every car with a CAI or subwoofers or CF hood, the system would be overrun and people would be up in arms... so yeah, its very arbitrary. They can pick and choose whomever they want to hassle.

and yeah, if you car stands out as being modified, you're just giving them an excuse to pull you over.

choose wisely.

clean and stealth is the way to go.

Also, if you get an intake, and are affraid the cops will pull you over, paint it matte black, it looks more stock that way, and most cops just look for shiney things.

not true...
all CAI's for the tC are not CARB legal yet...but Injen does attempt to get them approved. Once they do, they will issue it with a EO sticker in which a cop can NOT bust you for if you have one on it. Thing is, it's so much harder now because to be CARB legal, you're supposed to have the carbon filter which aftermarket products do not have...so even your SRI is illegal and unless the cop is a windowlicker, he'll give u a ticket too

Injen's website is misleading. As of February 2, 2007 there is not a CARB EO# for ANY Scion tC intake.

no it doesn't
www.injen.com/docs/products/listing.asp?pcc=is

if you go down to the tC section, it states in parenthesis...NO CARB

only xB's and xA's from 2004 prior are CARB approved

And that's why so many folks around here get tickets. They have a job to do which is to enforce the laws of this state and poor attitudes like yours is a sure fire way to get a ticket. So play it cool, show them some respect, and learn the laws of this state, and you'll most likely avoid any issues.
