Debate: When does the need for affirmative action stop?
I say it stops, when we stop it. There's no need for it, and it just reminds us about a racism in school admissions and employment that hardly happens anymore.
Personally I think affirmative action is a load of dog crap. Granted when they started it, yes it was probably necessary. Now it's just a joke and stops qualified people from getting jobs. I never fill out the "optional" forms at work when they ask for race and religion and what not. I'm not gonna be another statistic for your BS programs.
Sadly a lot of the baby boomer and older generations still seem to have a lingering prejudice for various peoples. So I think until they start dying off or retiring this might still be around. I really wish it would end now though. The program for anti-segregation has turned back on itself and become segregational in itself.

There is never a need for affirmative action! As a minority, I've never had a problem getting a job. In modern day's time, companies care more the profitability and productivity of employees than the color of their skin. The bottom line? Show and demonstrate to management that you can make them profit and you will succeed. Any company that thinks otherwise won't be in business for very long, in today's competitive market, and you shouldn't want to work for a company not concerned with profit, anyway! It's called JOB SECURITY, folks! And profitability translates to performance in non-profit organizations, so don't make the mistake thinking that they are exempt. Even schools care about research grants, and that is dependent on scholastic performance. I hate the thought of somebody whom did not work as hard as myself, getting prompted based on race and not performance. Anyone who is for affirmative acton is either lazy and doesn't want to work hard, or is just a complete sissy, and thinks that they are the only person in the world who has had a tough life.
Note on history: the whole world hated the Japanese as a race after world war 2. But hard work and good productivity have helped them climb to the top. And it's not just the japanese. . . Koreans, Jews, Italians, eastern Europeans and more have all acquirered wealth and climbed the socio-economic ladder.
