Default Drunk Driving

Two years ago my girlfriend and I drove from NJ to Orlando Florida to visit some friends. A couple hours into our trip we came across the drunkest guy I've ever seen. This person was swerving everywhere, bouncing off guard rails and even for a short stint was driving into on coming traffic. We used our cell phone to call the police. The police thank us for calling but didn't seem to interested. Eventually he followed an off ramp scraping against it and left our view. When we came across the next toll plaza and told the toll collector. He too seemed not to care and said he would call somebody. That was the craziest drunk I've ever seen. This all happened outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Does anyone else have some crazy stories about seeing or being in a car with a drunk driver?

I called the cops before because someone was drive like a fool swerving and all. We followed him a little and within 5 min of my call the cops pulled him over. we just saw the blue lights hauling behind us and there he went pulling the guy over. Sometimes I thank god we have over oppressive cops here.

Thank god I don't live anywhere near you. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of someone doing.

i used to work the graveyard shift at a major rent a car company and had so many hammered business people rent cars it wasn't even funny. the tactic was simple. call the cops, rent them the car, stall for a few minutes, and send them out when the cops were outside.

we couldn't deny renting them the car because we thought they were drunk, but there's no law (that i know of), against calling the police on a suspected drunk driver. there was a whole thing at work about how to handle the situation. it sucked having to mess up someones life by snitching but i guess it's better than some poor dude getting killed or whatever because i let it slide.

I got two.

This was a few years ago. Coming home late, from Cheers West in Tacoma, Wa. Im heading down Hwy 16. Im in the slow lane cruisin. Some drunk a-hole comes flying up an on ramp, barely misses my front bumper by millimeters. I swerve to the onramp to miss rear ending this guy, bounce off a guard rail. I follow him for a while, watching him ride two lanes, like a pinball. Call the cops. Give em all the info. As Im gettin off the freeway, I see a cop go flying by me headin straight for mr a-hole. Find out later I bent my rim, did some other minor damage. But not enough to cover the deductable.

Second was coming home from a bachelor party. The limo we were riding in was owned by a friend of the bachelor. Well, he was trashed. So were the others, cept me and one other guy. So me and the only other sober guy are trying to talk the driver to letting one of us drive. We were doing good. But somehow the drunk others talked him into being ok to drive, and he was dead set on this. So in piles everyone. So the only other sober guy and I hop in, trying to make sure everyone gets home safe as possible. So Im on the passenger side of the driver, and the other guy is sittin right behind the driver. We ended up "talking" him home. Telling where to turn, not to turn there, get back in your lane, watch out for the guard rail, look out for that pole. The kicker is we had 3 (three) sherrifs pass us. No clue. We get back to the house, and everyone goes to pass out, so sober guy and i are trying to gifure out how to keep limo driver from driving home, so we walk out to get him, and hes gone. He made it home ok, but damn, if something happened....bad.

it's still a gamble to try and ride shotgun and coach a drunk.

If I ever had to ask for the keys from the driver of the vehicle I was in, there would be no discussion, it would not be negotiable.

Don't think for a second that you were messing up their lives! You were doing the right thing and it is always a better situation when a drunk gets caught than not caught. Just think if that "poor dude getting killed" was someone you knew.

we were gonna swipe the keys from him, but when we got back to the limo, we watched him put it back in his holster. And decided talking would be better. I didnt want to be there, but i also didnt want to leave my friends alone with him either.
