You and I both! He is such a HUGE inspiration to my playing. Every time I think I've seen it all, I go find something new that he has done and am blown away all over again. His clips from the old Ibanez 7-string advertisement DVD, his clip for the new Jemini distortion pedal, his live shows, etc., etc., never cease to amaze me. The dude is just other-worldly!
To pay homage, even my username has some sort of Vai reference to it. UV7 is the production code for the Ibanez Universe 7-string guitar, which was designed by Steve Vai for Ibanez.
