Default Ignorant people

Just to clarify, this is not intended to be racial, prejudice or any other type of discrimination that could be twisted out of proportion. This is an obsevation I witnessed the other day told as I saw it unfold.
Is our society getting worse? Is our rights to so many freedoms compromising our ability to get along? case in point; Having a bite to eat at a local Burger King, a spanish(Mexican, PR or whatever) family sits at a table next to me. Seems a Mom two kids(3yrs and 1 yr old) and maybe moms parents. The kids were being kids but they were getting obnoxious. Prolly the loudest in the store. In the meantime, I'm watching a pair of really old people trying to come and go from a parking space. One waiting to get into a space the other one wants. I ate my entire sandwich before that debacle was over. Back to the family now. The younger doughter being just over a year old starts to fit a little. There is an older woman seated nearby that kinda was being a grandma of sorts. She wanted to console the baby cuz she was crying. So the old lady said something and the Mom was like" What!, haven't you ever seen a baby cry before!?" I turned and glared at the family cuz I felt that was outta line. Ten the mom turned and sstarted what souded like she was complaining in spanish to her parents. Well, the old lady got up and continued paying attention to the baby trying to get her to laugh and such. Just basically doing what Grandmas do, I guess. Then she turned and said" you know, This is my country too and I can look at whomever I want!" At this point I packed up what was left of my lunch and took it back to work to finish eating there. I could no longer stand the bickering.
Another point I saw in an Applebee's restaurant. I swear this was an episode of My Super Sweet 16 from MTV. Another show that makes me sick to watch. Yeah, let's teach our kids how to be brats. Anyways, this somewhat of a family sits down behind me and the mother, father and daughter are instantly at each others throats. Father asks daughter to put the cell phone away while at the table. she instantly starts crying and _____in. Literally crying too!! Swearing at her parents and all. I almost had to turn around and say something. I've never seen such disrespect for ones parents before. Man!
We are going to have to respect one another a little bit better if we are to succeed as such a diverse society. And I mean on the road, in restuarants. I hate having to drive to work or drive anywhere anymore. People are so disrespectful of one another on the streets and in shopping malls. Mistreat me and you'll "get whats comin to ya "is the way I feel.
I don't mind what the aftermath of this thread will be or if anyone will read far enought o understand my point. But it really is to just calm down a bit. I stand my ground cuz so many people don't. I am not political or anything. I think we should just be a little nicer sometimes. stand up for yourselves. Opinions good or bad or this thread locked doesn't matter to me. I think it's good to voice these incidents from time to time to see where we stand as a society. Don't flame tho. try to read and understnad what your feeling would be in those situations.

I have seen the same and feel the same way.

We should all start respecting each other a little more, if everyone does things will get better.

There was a similar thread on 2 other sites I visit, From reading it all seems like people don't care about anything or anyone but themselves.

If we show respect, we will get respect, eventually.

Don't feel bad, we all need to vent a little steam every now and again, or we will explode !

Dont worry, ur not alone on that obnoxious child issue. that is y there r restraunts that wont allow kids in because they dont want the disturbance they can cause. But i doubt any fast food place will ever do that, lol. U cant really blame the kids tho, they're just kids. I'l lay more responsibility on the parents. If they don't do ****, then whos going to teach those kids. O, and the teenage brat thing.. i'd like to c my daughter ever talk to me like that...if i ever have that is.

I completely agree with you...butttt....

In todays society tolerance and adaptation have become key. Unfortunatly children of todays 20somthing era were raised that they could make a difference by speaking their mind. While that has been great for my generation, it has lowered the standards of society and has transfered to the children of today, 1-10 yr old range.
Respect has gone out the window towards humanbeings and their possesions and has been passed off as thats how society is. And unfortunatly that is true. People can only act as they are taught. Our current day society did not wake up and decide to be free minded and self thinkers on their own, they were taught by the generation that preceded us.
The only way to change the current trend is to raise your children differently and hope they do the same in 20something years.

I applaud you coming in and talking about this, but in actuality it shows what todays society is, people who arent afraid to voice their opinion, be rude if need be, and go against the urge to just be nice and let it be. Because if we were all nice and let it be, none of the situations you explained would have happened. Confrontation would be avioded.

I have a T shirt that I wear in public when I go out to eat. It says "Beat your kids, or I will". I enjoy it.

I love that. Parents need to take responsibility for their children. Discipline is not saying that if they are not nice, they will get a "time-out". Discipline is smacked right there when you do something wrong. Parents want to be their kid's friends and always be nice to them. Growing up, if I did something wrong, it got taken care of at that moment. No waiting for a time-out or anything like that, I got smacked. I thank my parents for doing that now that I am on my own. My parents brought me up right. Parents can't be afraid to hit their kids (to an extent, I am not talking about beating their kids).

Thats just what kids need is a proper spanking. haha. i know im young and all but even i can see parents of my generation dont discipline their kids. now i dont know about being smacked in public, but if i was out of line in public, i was told, "just wait till we get home" and that in itself was terrifying without the spanking

I don't know if it just me but does it seem that parents (in general) act a lot more immature then let say my generation's parents. I know my parents gave us good beatings when we needed them and were actual parents.

Now it seems parents go out get drunk publicly, go to parties, and leave their kids to nannies or babysitters.

On a side note…
I know a 22 year-old mom, who got pregnant when she was 18, that leaves her son with her parents every weekend to go get drunk and party (drives up to UGA). Then she uses the “I have a kid” excuse for her mediocrity. She even admits to drinking and driving!!

If you have a child, even at that age, you need to grow up to meet that challenge. I HATE people who can not accept responsibility it disgusts me to no end.

I worked in child care for 5 years, and I've been working in a school for over a year now. In the time I've been working with kids and parents, it has just gotten worse. Parents threatened to have me beat up because I wouldn't let them take their kids out of the program(because they were drunk or high). Who in their right mind would go and get hammered on a Wednesday at 4pm, then try and pick up their kid only to drop them off at home with some pizza and go back out?

I actually ended up typing a proposal to the OCFS and CPS asking for a special title in which I could discipline children within reason, as well as take care of parents without problems from the police(also within reason). I never sent it out seeing as I would've most likely lost my job, but it was really just for my own sake.

Now when I was a kid, and I was acting up in a restaurant or something, I would be brought outside and into the car, given 5 across the crack of my ___ and then allowed to calm down. Afterwards, I was brought back inside where I didn't cause any trouble.

But children problems aside. our own being with society is whats corrupting our future. That's adults and kids alike. I am a Dad to be with a son from a previous marriage. I have used the logical way of discipline with him. To have him understand what may be right or wrong. a way of training. I weep for our future cuz kids today still effect my future. Adults still need to be better role models. Maybe even I need to be a better role model for those derilects. Maybe we really need to start saying something.
