Default Lock happy mods?

Is it me or do the mods on this site love to lock threads more than anywhere else?

I posted a thread last night to which I have never seen a straight answer for. I did a search and it brings up pages and pages of nothing. The search feature should let you just search for by title only. My question doesn't get answered and I even requested a sticky or a newbie section so that my question (that has been asked multiple times) would finally get answered!

Sorry for the vent, i just think that SOME mods on here are very immature and get off on the power trip to lock threads.

In a nutshell, we are trying to solve the problem that you cite.

The best way to make the information easily available to a search is to have all of the pertinent information on a particular topic in one single thread.

If you feel that this is a frustrating site, you are under no obligation to use it.

i know it's not what you want to hear, but ALOT of the threads that I see nowadays are in fact repeats of things i've heard over the past ~year. if you don't find something in one search, try changing around the terms.

i can attest to the SL search engine being a little screwy at times though.... especially that one at the top next to the "features" pulldown.

dont let it bug ya, they're only doing their job :-/

edit: maybe the mods should run a search of their own, and find the information you seek and post that when they lock the thread?

most mods do try to find the right thread and post it. in this case, the first response contained a link to a previous thread on the same topic. here's the definitive thread, IMO:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=129665

That being said, as mods we have no special search powers, or special access to the information contained on this site. we have to find things the same way that everyone else does, and I can't recall the last time someone actually thanked me for running a search FOR them.

As cherryBox said, mods do often do a quick search and post at least one of the results when they lock a topic for being redundant.

He's also right about people starting yet another thread about the same subject being one of the biggest problems with easily finding anything worthwhile in a search. It's why when one searches for answers, one runs into "pages and pages of nothing."

Instead of picking the best of the existing threads to ask in, they start yet another thread, and next time someone searches for an answer, they get "pages and pages of nothing" plus one.

THEN they complain that their extra thread is locked, when it really should probably just be deleted so that there is one less of the "pages and pages of nothing" everyone has to go through.

There is a REASON to have as few threads as possible answering/discussing any specific question: Then folks can actually find the information they are after instead of "pages and pages of nothing."

Now this big, bad, lock-happy mod is going to lock even THIS topic, since every single thing said in here has been said hundreds of times before, right here on ScionLife...
