cab drivers driving v8 caprices, just ask them. The ones who do oil changes at 3k and service their car all the time.

the gm 3.8 v6, my old man has a 91 bonneville with near that mileage and probably even find some 4.3s in some old s10s running ok.

while i'm not trying to defend american crap motors, just saying there are some that do.

Here's been my philosphy on buy car based on their motors.
If you're buying a v8, get one from a company that has been specialising in them for 50+ years. GM/Ford
If you're buying a I4, get one from a company that has been specialising in them for 50+ years. Toyota/Honda
And how many Toyota cars have you seen with blown engines under 100,000 miles?

only 1, my 1985 camry that had 82,000 miles. I had to put her down last year. ok that doesn't count, cuz it was sitting in a barn in california for 13 years before i got it.

i was just answering the question. I just know those small 302? v8s gm makes can last a very long time if you're happy with <240 horses.

That's my only point. There are a lot fewer Toyota's being put down under 100k (2 at my last count) than Gm's lasting over 300k.

It's safe to say that most folks here can live with less...

My main point on the Hummer reference was that the motor is too small in that behemoth, so it is working harder and won't last as long. The Hummer vs Prius comparo just isn't fair, the Aveo the author was so fond of mentioning would be a better choice.
