Nerves don't evolve into being sensitive to light. Nerves are inside your skin not on it. Skin cells evolve to be sensitive to light.
They evolved from primitively developed photosynthesis. Over time it got more complex and more efficient through further mutations. Before they developed photosynthesis they got their energy the way all non-photosynthetic bacteria do. They eat things and break them down for ATP. Or they make ATP through proton pumps embedded in the phospholipid bilayer. They most likely started as hydrogen sulfide thermo-bacteria near underwater volcanic vents.

Incorrect inference. The first "animals" to survive would be bacteria (not technically in the kingdom animalia) and asexual. Sexual reproduction most likely did not evolve until billions of years later (when one of the X chromosomes was mutated into a Y chromosome).
Natural selection is not chance, hence "selection." If you mutate to be light colored on a dark background you will be more easily seen by predators and be eaten, thus halting any hope of propagating the detrimental mutation. If you mutate to be more camouflaged to your surroundings (patterns on a snake versus a solid color) you will evade predators more easily and will survive better/longer and propagate your mutation. The mutation occurs by chance, not the process of natural selection.

Do you have a link for this? If they did as you state, then they are not following proper procedures for archeology. You can't mix two species together like that. How do you people not see that religion has been fighting science every step of the way? Uhm, and what does this have to do with anything? I assume you mean that because the retina is a nerve cell now that it was always one? The first photopore was part of the skin. Eventually it melded directly with the nervous system. Like I've said before, a fully developed eyeball doesn't magically appear from one mutation. First skin becomes light sensitive. Then it can become a pore. Then an ocular socket. Then develops transparent membranes over the socket. Then develops a cornea. Etc.

But it's not the eyes, apparently, that you should be concerned about. Rather, it's the alligator's five o'clock shadow -- those little bumpy spots on its face and mouth.

The spots have been known for as long as people and alligators have been staring at each other, but their function has been a mystery. Now, a University of Maryland researcher has discovered that they are sensory organs that can detect ripples in the surface of the water, like those created when dinner jumps into the swamp.

Big difference here. "God did it" provides no logical explanation. Just believe it "cuz I said so." This is not an answer. Evolution explains how life changes over time and diversifies. The bible does not. Christianity does not. God does not. Evidence =/= no evidence.
First off, you don't need a full skeleton to prove evolution. And you do need multiple skeletons to prove a species existed. Otherwise it might just be a mutant of one species. If we could extract DNA from the fragments we wouldn't need a full skeleton. Sadly DNA degrades rather easily in fossilized matter. Oh, wait, we got protein from a dinosaur and made DNA fragments from it and it matches genes in chickens... hmm must be made up...

they all can get food from the bottom of the trees, but only the tallest one can get to the top of the trees. As the food near the ground becomes scarce, the only giraffees eating well and surviving to breed are the taller ones.

a tall giraffee is more likely to have tall babies, because as i'm sure you don't know, genes for tall/large in most plants and animals species are almost always dominant, and therefore are more likely to pass on.

do that process 10x and compare those giraffee's height to the ones 10 generations back, they're taller on average huh?
now do that 10,000x and you've got a much different giraffee now, huh?

did you know most all dog types we have were only developed in the last 300 years from mostly all the same dogs? if you took a small dog that had big ears and bred it to another random dog that was smaller with big ears, and kept doing that generation after generation, you'd get a whole lot more small dogs with big ears, huh? and after say, 20 generations of heavily line breeding, you'd get small dogs that looked pretty uniform with big ears. make sense?

that's called natural selection. now, do you see how easy it is for species to change?

 

That's a very poor understanding of science. I woke up in a really bad mood today and I did not mean to demean you in any way. If you feel like I did I apologize. Look my dad is a true blue rocket science for lockheed. He's tone deaf and has no appreciation for art or music of any kind. He's as egotistical as i am, and he values logic and reason above all else, except that, because of his upbringing, he throws away all logic and reason for the most important part of his life, religion. He knows the flood couldn't have happened as described in the bible, he's totally aware that linking adam to jesus makes the world about 6,000 years old and means dinosaurs and prehistoric animals couldn't have existed with the bible's history. But at least he admits it. He won't say "the bible is wrong or a lie" and ends any conversation going that way, because he's "not allowed" to think or say that. He knows it makes him stupid sounding, but in southern baptist texas he comes across more ___ people than he does atheists, so he doesn't ever defend his religion to anyone but me. Plus he's also near 60 years old, and death is around the corner, and he doesn't want to have wasted his whole life believing in christianity on the off chance his odd version of a religion turns out to be true.

 

Yeah except if you don't believe in science you don't get punished for eternity. Scientists don't start wars.
