Radar interference?
Ok, I have 40% window tint on my windshield (full windshield). I have noticed that my detector seems to work ok, but not as good as I would expect it to. Would the front tint have something to do with this? Anyone with experience?
Here's another thing...If you paint your license plate with a very LIGHT film of a grey or flat white paint, will this reduce the reflectiveness of the paint on the plate enough to counter LIDAR?
i dont think it matters, the tint i mean.. what radar do you have? and what do u mean it dosent work as well as you want it to? police dont always have their radar on.. its a radar detector, not a police detector. also.. if you have it set basically on ur dashboard you might wanna try to move it up to the point where your backseats dont block it...it should have nothing blocking its way for best results
I have the cobra 9430. It's pretty decent and I know it won't detect cop cars unless they are running radar. Just seems to be that when it reacts to radar, I could be approaching the cop and it'll read 1 for almost the whole time until I'm about 20 yards away and then climb to 2,3,4,5. Doesn't seem to be too gradual. Might be just how it's calibrated.
The front windshield is at 40% and unnoticable at night that it is tinted from the inside. I got it and my other tint b/c we basically sit in a glass furnace and my a** was getting hot. With the black dash, it didn't help. The tint blocks out a good bit of heat and UV. I didn't want to get anything darker b/c I still wanted to be able to see good at night.
I painted my plate with a flat white and flat black primer. Gave it a smokey look. Then went over it with a flat white rustoleum paint for metal doors. Looks just like an original plate, minus any shine. I taped the state and numbers/letters up, but the rest is flat white. My brother-in-law said it should absorb quite a bit of laser but still not full proof. They can just target the hood next. Oh well, hopefully the detector will pick that up real quick for me to slow down.

I'm going to take out my center rear headrest. That's the only thing in it's way. Didn't think of that until your post. Thanks
ive also got one of those tinted plastic covers on top of my license plate. im sure it helps absorb or at least reduce its reflectivness. i mean if theyre gonna get you speeding theyre gonna get you, not much you can do.. at least i feel safer
it could be the detector if its an economic detector. ive got a Beltronics Vector 995 and i paid 350 for it. Its more than paid for itself already, especially on my 7 hour drives to see my g/f in college. but still the Valentine 1 is king.you might wanna check those out if you want top of the line. i think beltronics has a month return policy if you dont like it
I am definately looking into the Valentine 1............that one is sick. Longest detection and early detection range of about 15 different detectors.....Have to save up now.................Maybe my gf can get me it for xmas
