Car-building legend Boyd Coddington, whose testosterone-injected cable TV reality show "American Hot Rod" introduced the nation to the West Coast hot rod guru, has died. He was 63.
Coddington died at Whittier's Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. Coddington's La Habra office spokeswoman Amanda Curry wouldn't disclose the cause of death.
Coddington, who started building cars when he was 13, set a standard for his workmanship and creativity, with his popular "Cadzilla" creation considered a design masterpiece. The customized car based on a 1950s Cadillac was built for rocker Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

OUch............that is hard news to hear.........Boyd was a pioneer in the industry for nearly 30 years...........you were quite the car guy...............well guess you get to cruise every day now............you were quite the inspiration of my generation and those to come.....
Back in the early 90s Boyds were it. All the hot rods had them and they were really the first truly elite custom wheels I was ever aware of.
The first rims I ever bought were Boyds for my Impala back in 94. They're still on it and have aged very well.
While he seemed kind of like a jerk - there will be a huge hole in the hot rod world where he used to be.
Thanks Boyd

moved to off topic. This is sad to hear. I watched the show a couple times and the guy did seem to be a bit of a ***** but he certainly had the respect of being a quality fabricator.
Here was one of the cars he was most famous for made for a member of ZZ Top
