Hyundai is in the top of the quality rankings.
Kia is down 7.27% year to date.
Hyundai is down 7.87% year to date.
FYI, Scion's sales lineup is down 59.9% year to date.
The proof is in the pudding if you ask me.
Unfortunately I have more respect for Ford on not taking gov. money and trying to get through this. Chrysler, I think they have changed for a good trying to bring back the good cars. Hundai and Kia, I could care less, to eaches own. BUT IMO GM as a whole has ticked me off for the last time. First killing the Camero and Firebird, then killing OLDs, the oldest car company, now Pontiac. I know they have come out with some crap as of lately, but I am a die hard fan of the old GM cars. Their versions of economy cars is crap, not staying with the cool that help forge them to where they are. Screw them!
why is pontiac even on this poll? GM has already annouced that they are stopping production of pontiac.
as far as kia and hyundai, they're cars are still garbage. ofcourse the soul is neat looking, and with all the advertising they have spent promoting it, and how much it resembles the xb, which has been out over a year now, i'm not surprised that it outsold the xb for a month.
as for scion sales being down, it is understandable, with pure pricing, there is no haggling, so every other automaker that is selling cars for thousands of dollars off, and hyundai freaking paying people to buy their cars, i can see how sales can be down by comparison.
as for quality, paying for high quality materials is something everybody can do. but when it comes to design and engineering, korean cars are behind, particularly in suspension and engine power.
as for engine power, why is the genesis with the 4.6 liter 375 bhp v8, no faster in standing acceleration times than the 3.8 liter 290 bhp equiped genesis? furthermore, why does the same 3.8 liter engine in the genesis sedan, make less bhp than the 305 bhp 3.8 engine in the genesis coupe? my guess is that the 3.8 liter genesis sedan is actually faster than the v8 with 305 bhp, so they detuned the engine to 290 bhp to make it "slower" although it is just as fast, with the exception of accerleration from a roll.

Most of these differences are due to vehicle weight, desired vehicle purpose and road manners, and different desired powerbands. Its the same theory as a Ford F-150 with the modular 4.6L V8 and a Mustang equipped the same. The both have the same displacement but the ECU tune, heads, upper intake, and cams are different. The mustang is geared for higher HP in the mid to upper RPM band and the F-150 is geared for low-end torque and mid RPM HP. I've got a strong feeling that the Genesis coupe 4 cyl turbo is going to be very very popular soon...
and from what i pulled up on the 4g63 engine, it was developed by mitsubishi and chrysler, which makes sense, because DSM stood for diamond star motors, which were cars made jointly by mitsubishi and chrysler.
and i believe that the 2.0 turbo engine in the base genesis coupe is a mitsubishi sourced engine.

I was more concerned with whether in the early-mid 90's the Hyundai's were using the DSM motors in their cars because I remember seeing a 4G63 motor with a Hyundai valve-cover. I haven't done the research but my brother-in-law is really huge into DSM's and he had quite a few old blocks laying around and one was the Hyundai Valve cover one. Just a thought.
