oh well science is never learned on the first try....thats why its the first try. Anyway these experiments have been going on for many years now only on much, much smaller scales, they have a bunch of colliders(accelerators) all over the US, im going to school right near one on LI. i think this truly is the next step in science and our civilization. this can unlock secrets of our world and universe that we dont even have the capacity to understand yet. (wait that doesnt make sense?) lol it doesnt thats why the scientists have spent a few billion at the expense of a few countries to find out what will happen. who knows maybe it will open portals to different dimensions, and alien creatures will take over our universe and the Freeman will save us all!

brain fart: it would be so cool to have a particle accelerator as and engine. imagine internal combustion with air particles...its kinda like drivin around a mini nuclear reactor. 0-300mph in 1 sec. at the expense of your life!lol i think new metals need to be created to contain this kind of energy. even the equipment these guys are using has to be replaced due to the extreme wearing from the energy released.

The Big Bang theory makes no sense. To me, it's far more incomplete than the idea that we were created by a being more intelligent and powerful than us. It's not really that hard to believe if you think about it. I think it's pretty arrogant of us to believe we're the most intelligent form of life out there.

I think it's a mistake for scientists to try to create something as powerful as a black hole without fully understanding them. I find that dangerous. It's like handing a child a loaded gun.

first part....agreed. second part....disagree. when handling a child with a loaded gun you understand that the risks involved are that the gun may go off, child will shoot him/herself/you/others. we have no idea what will come of this. yes it is dangerous, but to think if it was too dangerous for a caveman to play with fire where we would be today....(or for another being to show him how to use it!). and they have no belief or worry that they will create a black hole. thats the people that didnt get their names in books saying that.

Well if it's a few million to just go above the atmosphere, I couldn't imagine what it would be to leave our galaxy and search for a new inhabitable planet .

But seriously, we are re-living the pre-year 2000 (Millenium) scare all over again. But this time, it's more real and full of uncertainty. And, it is fed by man's unquenching thirst for knowledge, at the expense of the uncertain.

I call this the Peter Griffin Effect (see the pic on pg. 1). Do we really need to push that button? All for the sake of knowing what if and what would happen?

Don't get me wrong. I am just as curious too as they are (it's nature) but do we really have to risk so much so soon? I really hope they have all their bases covered and have a tentative plan if something does go wrong. And hopefully result to my car traveling in warp speed.

 

I didn't explain that very well. The scientists are the children playing with a loaded weapon. You can't compare the damage capability of fire to the damage capability of an energy consuming black hole. If scientists were wrong in their calculations or wrong with how they believe black holes function, then the damage capability is literally beyond our understanding. Lets assume we created this tiny thing and somehow the black hole started consuming energy and started to grow. How would we stop it? We couldn't. We're f*cked. We all die. Yeah science has given me the computer and the internet I enjoy now. Science also has a long history of proving itself wrong. Science can't even decide whether certain foods are good or bad for us. Personally I think a lot of the medications and ointments science has given us actually cause more problems than they solve. I think sunblock causes skin cancer for instance. I don't trust science at all.

 

If you don't trust Science, why are you sitting at a computer using the Internet? Why are you driving a car? Science got you those things.

All this technology wouldn't exist without Science and Engineering.

 

I still think there's a god. A perfect world needs a creator to me. I think he/she created the big bang and everything that followed lol.
