Default Tempting Offer from Pontiac

A Pontiac dealer offered a new 2006 GTO to me at a still negotiable price of $26800 with 0% financing for 36 months. I'm very tempted even though my tC is perfectly fine after 60K miles. I'm currently looking into the insurance of the GTO but what do you guys think?

that is the best bang for the buck offer i've ever seen. but your insurance will be outrageous if you don't have a good driving record.

that is basically like getting a corvette for half price, you just have to live with the shame of owning a pontiac urp. (just threw up in my mouth alittle)

Don't forget to factor in the cost of time lost while waiting for the Pontiac mechanics to fix your car every 1000 miles when something on it breaks.

Do your research. Goats arent your typical cheap american made cars. They are actually made in Australia and they are very well put together.

and it probably gets near the same mileage as your tc. (20/28 is it?)

insurance isn't probably that much worse than a tC's

for that price, i'd love to get one myself, even though their front end isn't the most attractive stock.

the gto looks like every current gen pontiac (minus the solstice and sunfire) out. PERIOD. they all look the exact same.

the tC wins in the looks department. the gto just has more muscle.

Its like dating an ugly girl who can kick your ___.

lol.

I'd probably say insurance is higher for the tC judging by the number of stories I read about them being wrecked.

If you really want it, go for the goat. They are awesome cars, IMO.

If you are thinking about it check out a company called SLP. Here is there link. http://www.slponline.com/. A new GTO, although plain to look at is a performer. The 2006 has a 400 hp LS2. That is a solid motor. They are also very easy to get more power out of with little effort. If you have the money I say go for it.

GTO's are awesome performance wise and they are reliable. If I were you I would keep the TC for 1 more year until the new remodeled GXP's come out early 2008. They'll have a coup and a 4 door version. They look 100 times better and they will offer the same performance. Also you can usualy find a GTO in the local market cheaper than what they are offering. Of Course you would have secure a loan for one.

Do you mean the upcoming g8s?.

i just looked it up, gto's are gone, no more are to be made.
the only replacement is the new g8, which i don't think comes in a coupe.(since u said gxp, i think you're talking about the g6)

g8 gt's will start at 2k7 for one with that v8. bare bones though, so if this gto is has any extras, i'd get that myself.
But the resale value on the gto should be horrendous, so if this is a longterm purchase go for it.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the G8 is going to have different engine choices with the GXP model having the LS2 rated at 365 hp. It will cost more than a current GTO, sure it looks better but five grand in savings looks pretty nice also. The GTO being plain isn't all bad. Less attention from the po-po. http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows...ontiac_g8.html for the new g8

GXP = GT for the g8.

there should be only 2 engine choices for the g8, a v6 and a v8

Yeah I'm an idiot. I meant the G8. Also their will be a new G6 GT (coupe) which is hot as hell with the new styling. They showed it at one of the semas which rumor has it will go into production with most of the styling. By the way does the GTO they are trying to sell you come with the ram hood? That makes the car look a lot better than the plain hood.

While I'm all for a cheap big engine in a little car (which the GTO is not), there's no way I'd buy one...

Couple reasons:
- GM dealers
- it looks like a crapalier
- you'll either replace the front tires or struts (depending on the year) every 5k miles because GM USA is a bunch of morons (do a search on it, basically they changed the tire width from the aussie market and it rubbed, so they changed the suspension, and it breaks... why not just put the tire size back!)
- its value is gonna drop like a rock! You're basically buying a year old car, so it should be priced no more than a 1 year old used car (15-20% off invoice)
- its getting phased out, which is never good for resale
- It's a GM.

Update: They told me that $26000 out the door and 0% financing for 3 years is too low. I asked them to make me an offer. haven't heard from them in two weeks. Oh well.

Call em again?
man, if I got a second car for that price, that may be it.
i look it as an affordable corvette. and that's really a very solid motor now.
i'd keep with your offer, or even lower it. They're not going to want that car soon enough.
