Who has seen Brokeback Mountain & what did you think of
Just wondering if anyone has seen this movie and what your overall opinion of it was?
If you haven't seen it, do you plan to?
If you haven't seen it, do you plan to?
I saw it last Friday afternoon. I really liked it. It was not really what i expected, but then i'm not sure what I was expecting
. It was more of an emothional rollercoaster than I was up for that day. I will have to see it again. I think that it will do VERY well at the G. Globes and all the other awards. It is interesting from the standpoint that it is really a universal themes, 2 men, 2 women, 2 hetersexuals racially/religously mixed whatever then themes is still true for all.
It's perfectly understandable that this movie wont be to everyone's taste. But there is no reason to be rude and immature. if you choose to reply to this thread, please be considerate of the people reading it. Thank you

I think it is still too early to force this movie down america's throat. . . at least the mainstream. It's a question of why people go to the movies and why they PAY money to see what they want to see. And face it, an explicit ___ sex scene is not something that mainstream American's want to see.
Consider this, imagine a movie with an explicit scene between two extremely unattractive people. I gaurantee the movie would be a flop. I'm not saying that ___ people are bad, or that unattractive people are bad. . . but in the eyes of the majority of people, homosexuality is unattractive.
Think of it this way, no straight man likes to see another man naked. . . and that's the mainstream. The only reason men like to see sexual situations is that there are attractive women in them.
The only markets that BBM appeals to are gays and females whom are not offended by homo-sexuality. . . and that is a VERY small market.
___ movies aren't something completely unapproachable. Have you seen the Bird Cage? It was a very successful, and much easier to accept movie. Delete the sex scenes. . . and people won't mind so much. Everyone can relate to (and likes to see) romance. Very few people (including myself) can relate to things they do not find attractive.
I've been called a racist, a biggot, and many other things, so go ahead and flame me, I'm used to it. I'm straight, I'm asian, and I have friends of all races, ethnicities, and sexualities. In fact, a helped create a movie on racial acceptance in America (for a UCD coms project). Pushing the envelope too far is a sure fire way to create discrimination (not acceptance).

djct- aparrently America does not mind...because it has done VERY well. I went to se it in a prodominatly straight theater, you would not belive the reaction, but it still got applause at the end. Change has to come, you cannot wait for people to be ready for it. Just like Racisim, if we had waited till people were 'ready' we would still have 'Colored Only' drinking fountains.
Aoshi- You SEEN it? Well, we can disregard that statement, because it was stupid and homophobic. I guess you would be in favor of '___ Only' drinking fountains?
OneBadBox-POST *****!

I wouldn't pay to see a movie about a cowboy who has a thing for/with his horse either.
Calling something a 'lifestyle' doesn't make it acceptable to me nor make it 'ok'.
Sure there is a lot of gray area between right and wrong. That doesn't negate the fact there is still right and wrong.

Having friends that are ___, I know a bit about the culture. That said, when our ___ friends asked my wife and I to go with them and some other straight couples, we said no.
I have no need to see it. I don't care if someone is ___, I just don't need to see it - especially in an explicit manner.
And don't compare ___ to civil rights for blacks.
If in 10 years people start thinking it's OK for men to date underaged boys - will that be OK for a movie too?
Is it (no jokes, it's too easy) OK for a female teacher to bang her underaged male students? No.
I think it's dangerous to take a lifestyle choice and compare it to being black (or whatever) just like having a religion is a choice.
Don't care to debate it really, just giving my opinion. Being from Montana, I just didn't see the need for it - it seems it was just done to show that there are some "manly men" pretending to be straight - coulda used truckers or wrestlers to prove the same point...

Djct, Don't you think its a bit much to say this is being forced down America's throat? It's not a law that everyone in creation must see this movie. If you are not interested in it, then don't go see it.
And, the "explicit ___ sex scene" you are referring to has no nudity in it and lasts 15 seconds. I can think of hundreds of straight movies with sex scenes much more explicit but because they have hot girls with big ***** in them, they are acceptable to you. Perhaps girls and ___ men find these scenes offensive and forced down our throats. I'm sure you never considered that.
If you would actually take the time to either read about or go see this movie, you would see that there is really nothing "___" about it. There are no crossdressers or trannies, no ___ club scenes with tons of buff shirtless men, no flamboyant swishy men running across the scene saying feminine things, and no one is dying of AIDS. All of which have become so stereotypical in ___ themed movies these days. While the birdcage was a funny movie, it played right into several of these stereotypes. Brokeback Mountain transcends these by not focusing on it's ___ theme. It's a movie about love, life and hardships in which the 2 central characters happen to be men.
I am not saying any of this to flame or put you down. I am glad that you actually took the time to give your opinion in this thread.
