Sarcasm aside The polar ice is many LAYERS, only the uppermost are from the most recent ice ages. All the stuff way, WAY down below the suface was from past ice ages. Atmospheric conditions such as CO2 levels can be measured in ice core samples. This shows us a lot of stuff, but also past ice age and wam age conditions. All this is a very basic break down of the scientific method, of course, but the data and information IS out there, and people DO study these things ;)

Not to come off like an ___ in any way, just putting it out there so people know. Disclaimer: I'm not a scientist, I just watch WAY to much educational TV.

Apparently you aren't watching any spelling bees. It's spelled "too" in that context.

So a question to all those who believe in a "rapture": do you feel like because of your religious beliefs that there is no point in try to reduce the amount of environmental pollution?

No way. Look at my last 2 or three posts. Like I said, I believe that God gave us this planet to live on for a pre-determined amount of time. I think for us to not take care of it is wrong.

I think we could try. I like proving people wrong. Here's what I think will happen. I think we as a human race will get the Earth to a point where we think we are OK. Just as it is looking awesome rapture will happen. God has a sense of humor. Look at the Duck Billed Platypus!

^^ indeed..... and I wasn't saying that we shouldn't care for the planet.... but I do think that if it's Gods plan for the earth to end from a terrible global warming, then there's nothing we can do about it.... And I also think that it would take a movement from the leaders of every nation together to attempt to control the global warming and we all know that will never happen....

Im not looking for a religious debate, so I will watch my words.

The Earth is an organism. It is alive. I see, now and (even more so) in the future, the Earth defending itself, as do all living creatures.

As far as 'natural cycles" go, I offer up the following example to show it has gone far beyond that.

In Costa Rica, where my company does a lot of research, there are these really cool, multi-colored harlequin frogs. Two thirds of the 117 different species have disappeared in the last thirty years. The severity of the die offs is DIRECTLY related to that years warming.

See....to me, that is such a cop out. You are responsible for destroying your gods creation if you follow the path you speak of.

And you have. I've been pleasantly surprised at how respectful most people here have been towards other peoples beliefes....even if they don't personally believe them.

Hey, I do what I can to help out... I don't litter, I recycle what materials I can, I don't dump harmful wastes into ditches or drains..... but unless, like I said, the leaders of every nation forcefully come upon their "followers" making them reduce pollution, we're not going to get anywhere - it's too late....

And what keeps people from thinking that way? Shackles on the mind, of which religion is just one of many shackles.

God is sitting in heaven when a scientist prays to Him,
"God, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the
"beginning."
"Oh, is that so? Tell me..." replies God.
"Well," says the scientist, "We can take dirt and form it into the likeness of you and breathe life into it, thus creating man."
"Well, that's interesting...show Me." So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil.

"No, no, no . . " interrupts God, "Get your own dirt."
