Well, SCI_TC_GUY...if our American laws were taught correctly and followed exactly we'd actually have a very Christian society here in America. Religion is what all of our laws are based off of. So, more education in turn leads to more Christian followers and ideals.

I am a Christian, although I do not beleive in the rapture. I do beleive that Christ's second coming is very soon, most likely in our lifetimes. However, I think that the attitude of many christians has moved to that of, "If it is God's will for this earth to end by global warming then there is nothing we can do about it." While this is true, it is foolish to think that one can predict or even think of fully understanding the will of God with are finite human minds. My biggest concern is that people with this beleif, although they will probably do their part to recycle etc., will be reluctant to make evironmental issues a priority when they go to the ballot box. For all those bible schollars out there, recall the parable of the talants. God expects us to be good stewards of what he has given us. This includes the earth. I think if we don't make environmental issues a priority, God is going to hold each and everyone of us accountable. I think many of us will be shocked about what keeps us from heaven and eternal life.

And let's please not make this a "Christian America" discussion. Our four father's beleived in the seperation of church and state for a reason. Religious liberty and religious fredom is not just a christian issue. Other religion's have the right to worship God in this Country as they see fit. Christianity is not this autonimous ubiquitous nation. Adopting one religion for this nation would jepordize most of christianity, as well as other religions. Sorrry for the offtopic.

Thanks for proving my point that we need more education in this world.

That idea simply does not hold to the historical evidence.

Many Americans did practice christianity, but so also did many believe in deistic philosophy. The founding fathers held to deism and freemasonry tenets rather than to christianity.

So, HeathenBrewing, basically what you are saying is that they held to a belief that God made the world and abandoned it.

Yup.

But we're living proof of a failure in that area here in the US.

LOL

Good one.

But the point he is making is that education is the answer to Man's problems. Whether it's inspired by God or drawn from people in other ways, the solutions are generally the answers to many prayers and education is the basis of the solutions.

Global warming, in my opinion, is a political issue that can be fixed by people first understanding it, then wanting to do something about it. Even people that don't believe or know about God might understand the importance of correcting our environmental ways in order to try to create a balance, in nature, of our presence on Planet Earth.

I just want to say this, because i am leaving work and I don't know when I will have the opportunity to post in this thread. I am extremely proud of the scionlife comminity and its ability to hold a heavy political and religious discourse, in a respectful and dignified manner, I am quite impressed and I hope we can keep this up.

I am not aware of the founding fathers speaking of a god making the world, so I am not sure what you are trying to say.

I do know how Tomas Jefferson felt about bible-based christianity since those thoughts were written down:

--"Christianity...(has become) the most perverted system that ever shone on man. ...Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and importers led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus."

--"The clergy converted the simple teachings of Jesus into an engine for enslaving mankind and adulterated by artificial constructions into a contrivance to filch wealth and power to themselves...these clergy, in fact, constitute the real Anti-Christ."

Thinking about changing the name of this thread. Suggestions?

I like "Global Warming: God Or Politics?"

Of course.... things would get pretty busy in here then.

Sounds good to me!

I can even help get the ball rollling with this statement:

Religion is anti-life.

All religion devalues life because it teaches that death is not the end. This makes it soooooooooooo much easier to not be proactive in life and dismiss their lack of resolve because "its gods will".
